The aforesaid party enables through their website, bookings at a private
plot/ bungalow in Chondi village very close to Alibag. This venue
(popularly known as Kashinath Mali's house) is supposed to be a getaway for
a group of people looking to spend a weekend outside of Mumbai.

Six of us, myself included, got in touch with Star Holidays thorugh a
reference and checked their details on the aforementioned website. After
clarifying the details on phone, we looked at the pictures of the
accomodation to be provided and felt satisfied enough to make a booking well
in advance. A representative from the organisation came to my friend's house
and the money (entire sum as advance) was paid. Inspite of a demand for a
receipt, we were not issued one.

The rates were as follows:

Rs. 800/- per person for a package including food and accomodation for 2
days and 1 night.

The total amount was Rs. 4800/- for 6 people.

We made the booking for 11th & 12th July, 2009 (Saturday & Sunday). As
mentioned, the entire amount was paid in advance without a receipt.

We reached the venue as scheduled on the morning of 11th July (Saturday)
only to find out that the room allotted to us was an unclean servant
outhouse and one that had no picture of itself or even a slight mention on
the website which is their only medium of assessment of the accomodation
they offer. The room was not big enough or comfortable enough for 6 people
to spend 2 days in either.

We raised the issue of not being satisfied with what we had been offered
with the representative that we were in touch with, in Mumbai. She
had incidentally offered to give us the entire money back if we did not like
the place. After receiving an assurance of getting the money back (only on
telephone), we moved to a different accomodation in Alibag city.

On our return from Alibag, when my friend got in touch with the Star
Holidays office and spoke to the same represenative, we were assured that
the money would be sent to her residence. A few moments after this
conversation, the representative called back saying Star Holidays was going
to reimburse only half the amount to us.

In consequent conversations, we were treated and spoken to in a very unruly,
abrasive manner. We were not allowed to put our point through of having felt
cheated by the very fact that the promise of comfortable accomodation
through the website was not fulfilled. Infact, the accomodation provided was
absolutely not acceptable.

I request you to take note of the fact that the company is employing
fraudulent measures (read: devious pictures on their website) to lure people
into booking their holiday home. They are depicting their accomodation to be
something else and the reality is vastly different. They are also not
entertaining our plea of complete reimbursement. They are running a business
without issuing payment receipts!

We do not have any documented proof of the whole episode apart from a
visiting card of the company and an sms that was sent to my friend's phone
by the representative giving us directions to their holiday home.

Please do let me know what can be done from here and if the company can be
brought to justice. We have not received our full payment yet and we believe
we deserve to.
