I purchased this product and have had problems. I do not reccomend it. I do not recomend any products from Samsung. Here is my log since I purchased the product:
Oct. 1, 2010
Purchased PN42C430
Oct. 3.
Audio not working. Tried to Call Samsung customer service, had issues, giving up.
Oct. 10.
Tried to contact Samsung again. On hold for too long, giving up.
Oct. 20, 2010
Called customer service three times. Was hanged up on twice. Spent a total of three hours on the phone. Have telephone records indicating phone logs as it was conducted with a personal cell phone. The customer sales representatives were extremely rude. Their logic was to return the TV to the manufacturer. I had no way to return it as it was too big. Eventually, after being hanged up on several times and waiting on hold for very long periods of time, Samsung decided to send a technician. Is it possible that this is their protocol? Do they do this too all the customers? I'm not sure, I've heard of people saying they had bad service from Samsung. This is the first time I've encountered such an issue. Eventually given case number: 4004273950
Nov. 1, 2010
Was contacted by Ray Jack Electronics. I faxed them the receipt of purchase. We later negotiated a time to meet. I had several phone conversations with them before they came.
Nov. 11, 2010
Technician came from Ray Jack Electronics. He said he was not sure what the problem was.
Dec. 4, 2010
Technician came from Ray Jack Electronics again. He brought an oscilloscope to measure the signal coming from the audio cable. The signal was valid. He also verified that the audio was working by connecting it to other speakers. He installed a new input circuit board. The audio still did not work. He said that Samsung will most likely right this off as a “not compatible feature” then he proceeded to tell me 'how I can purchases more cables to get it to work on a different mode' This is not acceptable. He also unofficially said that Sumsung often treats people this way, because Samsung is so big they don't care about people. Samsung has given me a defective product. The product claims to work with DVI and a 3.5mm audio cable. The audio is not working.
The technician said that he will follow up with an engineer from Samsung and get back to me. He also confirmed that Samsung recently changed the case number for an unknown number. The new case number is: 4100550824
This is definitely not a compatibility issue. This is a defective product issue. I purchased a product which I assumed would have the functionality outlined in the specifications.
In reference to the user manual [[samsung [dot] com/ca/consumer/tv-video/tv/plasma/PN42C430A1DXZC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support]]A Premium Full HD Movie Experience - PN42C430 - Plasma - TV | SAMSUNG[/url], last updated on Sept 7, 2010, page 9 clearly outlines that the user can use the DVI-OUT port of the output device along with the AUDIOOUT: “When using an HDMI/DVI cable connection, you must use the HDMI IN 1(DVI) jack for video. A DVD, Blu-ray
player, HD cable box, HD STB satellite receiver may require a DVI-HDMI (DVI to HDMI) cable or DVI-HDMI (DVI
to HDMI) adapter. The DVI AUDIO IN jack is required for audio.
”
I am not able to hear sound when I connect the audio from my computer along with the video from the DVI Port. This is clearly a defective product.
