Pervasive Software Inc., the US-based small and medium enterprise in data infrastructure software, has launched its India operations with a development centre in Bangalore.

The Nasdaq-listed Texas firm plans to enter the data security and business intelligence domains by designing and developing the requisite software products at its Indian centre, the company's first such facility outside the US.

"We will design and develop new software products in addition to developing the new versions of the existing product range at our India centre," Pervasive CEO David Sikora told reporters here Friday.

The company plans to ramp up its headcount to 100 people in the next 12 months from 25 people presently to speed the time required for bringing new products to the market, which is closer to its customers.

The development of product engineering infrastructure in the sub-continent and planned expansion will enable the company to execute new projects from design to deployment.

"The Indian facility will contribute significantly to our globalised product development efforts in association with the main software centre in the US," Sikora stated.

According to India software operations director Jaisimha Muthegere, as an extension of the US operations in Austin, the Bangalore centre will focus on product development, including core research and development work that will directly address critical customer and market needs.

Sikora said the parent company would also look at mergers and acquisitions for consolidating its organic and inorganic growth in the coming years.
