Hi,I changed my notebook computer to a Macbook Pro in March 2011. Earlier I had been using a Windows notebook. I have been using a Reliance Netconnect (Post paid) connection for a year now. Until about mid April of 2011 it worked fine on both my laptop computers.
I now gave my old laptop to my daughter.
Suddenly, in April I could not connect to the internet anymore from my Mac laptop. Initially, I thought that it was a temporary connectivity issue.
1. In April/May/June I called reliance and visited many of their broadband outlets in multiple cities (Bangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry) seeking a resolution.
2. None of the staff in any of the outlets knew anything. They made me uninstall and install the latest versions of the drivers from the web and it was of no use. The problem continued.
3. No one at Reliance even told me how to escalate the problem. Meanwhile, I continued to pay my monthly billing about Rs 1050 every month even though the product was not working on my Mac.
4. In July I finally managed to trace the identity of the company that writes the device drivers for Reliance. After much followup from my side, including going multiple times to the Reliance istore outlets, they finally confirmed to me that they did not support the latest Mac OS version I had (which was an automatic Internet Upgrade) that the Mac does and it changed to Mac OS 10.6.8 from an earlier version in April. Which explained the reason for not working. However, the error messages are so vague that this is not evident and nor do any of their own staff know anything about this.
5. I wrote to the Reliance Nodal Manager asking for a resolution. I did not want to pay for a product that does not work on a major current PC platform like the Mac. They had no answer as to when the answer will be fixed. I told them in no uncertain terms verbally and in writing that they should not be billing me for a product that did not work. I have settled my bills on time for 10 months in a row.
6. I now gave them several options (to replace my modem with another reliance modem that works), fix the problem with a driver that works with other software drivers but not bill me for the period when the product does not work. Buy back my useless modem if they cant do any of the above.
7. Their reaction was amazing (No commitment or resolution on any of the above). Instead their call centre people call me at least 10 times in a day demanding payment for a defunct product. They simply refuse to understand. Every time it is a new caller and they are expecting me to explain the whole sequence to them each and everytime. Now I have stopped taking their calls. However, it is such a pain, an embarrassment and extreme harassment to say the least. About 2 weeks ago I lost the modem, and felt so relieved...good riddance of a bad product and a bad company. I called the call centre and reported this to them.
However, the calls do not stop.
What should I do now ? I have a reasonable email trail of all the email communications in my possession.
However, in all their emails they have included a rider as below
"The information contained in this electronic message (email) and any attachments to this email are intended for the exclusive use of the addressee(s) and access to this email by any one else is unauthorised. Appreciate any advise anyone can give me.
Thanks
