Airtel's fair usage policy is not at all fair. I think this is a universally accepted fact now.
They are using this policy to make more money out of their customers by cutting their speed even before their limit is hit, and suggest these people about their "Bandwidth On Demand" service.(I am myself using BOD now-from 4mbps to 256kbps is painful.)
This Fair usage policy is just a gift wrap, which hides their intentions to exploit every single consumers out there.

PS. I have all the evidences (pictures) to support my findings below.
PS. Customer care through phone did not resolve my problem
PS. Tried emailing them the story and images, but they repeat the same stupid story : your plans download limit is 50GB... blah blah. When the real problem is that i DID NOT CROSS my download limit.

Here is the experience I had for the past 5 days. 22nd Jan 2011 to 27th Jan 2011. :-

22nd Jan :-

- Started getting slow broadband speed(256kbps)
- Called airtel customer care to rectify the slow internet problem
- Airtel customer care executive had checked “Unbilled Amount”, which showed my Internet usage of 17/01/2011 ~ 20/01/2011 was 36.57GB[3834754 units] (image number 4)
- The executive had explained that since my internet usage of 17/01/2011 ~ 20/01/2011 was 36.57, considering the fact that my average daily usage is 9GB, I must have used 13.43GB from 20/01/2011 to 22/01/2011. Thus completing 50GB download limit. This consequently triggered the Airtel’s fair usage policy.
- But According to the information provided in “Unbilled details”, My internet usage of 17/01/2011~22/01/2011 was 36.57GB[3834754 units] (image number 1,2,3,4)
- Unfortunately, Airtel office cannot check their client’s “Unbilled details”.
- To inform them about my findings I had requested an engineer to be sent in order to look into the matter..
- An engineer had visited, but did not forward my problem to the office. This resulted in closing the complaint I filed.
25th Jan :-

- My Internet usage of 17/01/2011~23/01/2011 turns out to be 42.44GB[4450020units].
- This proves the Airtel customer care executive’s speculation of me crossing 50GB by 22nd.
- This proves that Airtel had shut down my 4mbps speed even when I did not cross my 50GB limit. (256kbps since 22nd 25/01/2011)
- Now with these new findings I have approached the customer care executives supervisors, who explains the same thing, saying that Since my internet usage of 17/01/2011~23/01/2011 is 42.44GB[4450020units], It is possible that I have exceeded my 50GB limit somewhere in between 23/01/2011~25/01/2011 .
27th Jan :-
- 17/01/2011 ~ 25/01/2011 Internet usage – 42.6GB [4466741 units]
- This shows that I DID NOT cross my 50 GB limit on 22nd. However, Airtel stopped my 4 mbps service from 22nd itself.
