I had an Airtel postpaid mobile connection, which was purchased in first week of may 2010.
I found that the connection was not suitable for me so on 22 may 2010, i called the customer care centre to cancell the number. The executive in the call centre told me to pay current outstanding. I paid Rs. 945 on the same day. My request was taken and was given a reference number for this cancellation. I was told that my connection will be cancelled on 31st May 2010 and i have to pay the remaining outstanding which was Rs. 298.5 paid on 13th June 2010. I have proofs for both the payments. Afterwards i did not received any confirmation regarding the cancellation of the connection. I did not received any bill for the last 4-5 months.
Now after 6 months on 11th December 2010, i am receiving an e-mail that Airtel corporate collection team has served me a Legal Notice to pay the outstanding Rs. 1170. They calimed that i was contacted repeteadly. But the fact is that nobody called me or came personally to give me the notice. Till date i have not even received the breakup of the dues or the notice in soft copy or hard copy. If they really wanted to contact me they could have send me an e-mail.
When contacted the corporate collection team for clarification, their behavior was rude and they were not listening me. They refused to consider the validity of the cancellation reference number and threatened me to take matter to higher courts. My question is then why i was given that reference number?? The same team members have done similar type of harrasement in past to customers who have cancelled their connections. I am called for a hearing on 29th December 2010. Please advise me what further step i should take.
Thanking in Advance,
Mitul
