Indian IT training major NIIT said Thursday it planned to provide training in Vietnam and help expand its education network there.

G. Raghavan, president, NIIT global individual learning business, told that Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had invited the company to "participate in the country's effort to build a talent pool as they are also very eager to export the talent to other countries".

"Vietnam is currently facing a shortage in qualified and trained manpower," he said after his meeting with the Vietnamese leader.

"We will work with the Vietnamese industry and the academia to help build their IT skill base, in the spirit of partnership," Raghavan added.

He said the company is scouting for partnerships with Vietnamese colleges and universities in to spread its network.

NIIT, which has 24 centres in Vietnam where it has been present since 2001, has trained over 8,000 students. It aims to revamp its presence by opening its own branches.

The company also plans to increase its headcount.

The Vietnamese leader is on a three-day visit to India.
