The ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chief Sonia Gandhi has asked the Delhi government to address the city's power problems even as the Chief Minister Friday blamed the Ambani family feud for the crisis.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, whose government has been under attack for power crisis, said that Gandhi had asked her to look into the situation.

Talking to reporters here, Diskhit said Gandhi had asked her to look into the complaints made by Communist Party of India (CPI) leader A.B. Bardhan on Delhi's power problems.

"Gandhi has asked us to look into the demands put forth by Bardhan when he met her," she said.

"The power situation in Delhi during the last three years has improved enormously, but not to the satisfaction of the consumers," she said.

Dikshit indirectly blamed the feud in the Ambani family for the capital's power crisis and non-cooperation of neighbouring states for the city's water problem.

Referring to the numerous complaints during the past several months, Dikshit said that one of the two distributing companies (BSES) belonged to Reliance which had been going through some problems in the past one year and that had affected the power supply.

"The government waited patiently. The consumer suffered. We are sorry for that," she said without naming the Ambanis.

Dikshit said the assistant general manager of Reliance Energy was called for a meeting Thursday whereby the company was asked to solve the grievances of the consumers.

On complaints about power metres, Dikshit said Reliance Energy has been instructed to give the choice to the consumers.

Maintaining that 'lack of understanding' between the consumers and the service providers was a major problem in the functioning of BSES, she said the company has assured that an action plan for improving its consumer redressal mechanism will be worked out in the next four to five days.
