India's opposition stalwart L.K. Advani said Tuesday he has proposed a ferry service between Karachi and Mumbai to strengthen business relations between his country and Pakistan.

"I proposed a ferry service between Bombay (Mumbai) and Karachi, which the president (of Pakistan) has promised to look into," Advani, chief of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), told.

He was speaking after a meeting with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in nearby Rawalpindi.

Advani, who is on a week-long visit to Pakistan, said such confidence-building measures will help strengthen relations not only at the state level but among the people as well.

He hoped that Pakistan would consider the proposal. "This will also provide
a cheap mode of transportation to the businessmen of the two countries," Advani said.
