A copy of a video compact disc (VCD) with a recording of Manu Sharma's interrogation was Thursday handed over to an investigating officer of a new probe ordered into the Jessica Lal murder case.
Sharma alias Siddharth Vasisht, the main accused in the Jessica Lal murder case, had been acquitted in February.
Additional chief metropolitan magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau passed the order to hand over the VCD on a plea by R.S. Chauhan, investigating officer in the fresh case registered under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (destroying of evidence) and 218 (fabrication of records) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The fresh case will probe alleged destruction of evidence by the Mehrauli police station in March in the Jessica murder case.
In his application, the investigating officer submitted that since the VCD, kept in the Mehrauli police station's Malkhana (storehouse), was neither produced nor exhibited in the court during the course of the trial of the Jessica murder case, the police required a copy of it for investigation purposes.
Kau sent for the VCD, ordered its de-sealing and preparation of two copies of it in the courtroom itself. One copy was handed over to the investigating officer while the other was kept as court record.
After making copies, the original VCD was again sealed and returned to the Malkhana.
