The Delhi High Court Friday restrained the Uttar Pradesh police from investigating the alleged tapping of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's telephone.

Judge R.C. Jain's order came on a Delhi Police petition saying their Uttar Pradesh counterparts could not probe the alleged tapping as it was said to have occurred in the national capital.

The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case in this connection.

Amar Singh has accused the Delhi Police of tapping his phone at the instance of the Delhi government, which, according to him, was acting on orders of ruling United Progressive Alliance chair Sonia Gandhi.

The court fixed Jan 25 as the next date for the next hearing.
