Diverting 90 MW of power from Chattisgarh to Maharashtra was an injustice to the state by the centre, Chief Minister Raman Singh said here Friday.
He said he would take up with the centre the issue of diversion, which would give a reprieve to Maharashtra that has been battling a serious power crisis but also deprive Chhattisgarh of much-needed power.
"The state is already facing a power crisis," Singh told, adding that the centre's move was not fair and would aggravate the power shortage in the state.
Said state electricity board chief Rajeev Ranjan: "The central government decision, which has already come into effect from Friday, is a big blow to our efforts to maintain power supply."
Chhattisgarh generates 1,450 MW of power as against a demand of nearly 2,000 MW. The government had announced evening power shutdowns from April 15 for rural areas to bridge the deficit between demand and supply.
The decision provoked protests in rural areas with consumers ransacking electricity offices, finally leading to the government declaring that it would withdraw the power cuts by May 15.
Last year in November, the centre diverted 288 MW of power to Madhya Pradesh. Chhattisgarh has already filed a case against the decision in the Delhi High Court.
