India has rejected a request by Bangladesh to set up a trade mission in Guwahati in Assam, saying it was not the government's policy to allow such missions to be set up in the north-eastern region.

Bangladesh had requested for setting up a trade mission in Guwahati, Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha Thursday.

But he added: "Establishment of trade missions by foreign countries in north-eastern states is not covered within the ambit of current government policy".
