Default Packers & movers Damaging Goods

    Hello

I need help from consumer court group memebers.. I have recently relocated
    from delhi to bangalore.

I had sent all my belongings and household items through Packers and Movers
(Om Sai Packers and Movers, Ghaziabad)

I received the goods and I found them in damaged condition.

My TV set which was workth Rs 13,000 still in warranty period is broken into
    pieces.

How should I claim, can anybody please give me advice

Packers say they cannot do anything with it.

You have to preserve all the bills/vouchers with you.Once they undertake a job
for consideration(in this case U have paid them)it is their duty to deliver the
goods in good condition. It is negligent on the part of the packers&movers.I
suggest, better send a complaint letter(Regd)to the company stating clearly the
damages and DEMAND them for replacement or payment of the total value. If
nothing is forth coming You may have to file a case in the CONSUMER COURT.in
your dist. OR you may approach the INTERNATIONAL CONSUMER RIGHTS PROTECTION
COUNCIL for their help. They give U right direction.

I have gone through many transfers and seen the modus operandi of these packers
and movers. They demand 80-90 % of the amount before goods are loaded in the
truck. What we should do is that -

    1. Go for transit insurance of goods. It is a small amount and all companies in
case of transfer pays it to the employee.
    2. Pay only 20-30 % of the amonut demanded by the packers before material is
loaded. Rest on reaching the destination.
    3. The truck operater should be from union etc.
    4. Take a photo copy of driving licence of truck driver and registration
    certificate of the truck.
    5. Packer and movers are never responsible for breakage of goods while in
transit, it is the truck operator. You read their terms and conditions. THey
    charge very huge amount.
