Cheating by retailer: Maxtor portable Hard disk I bought a Maxtor 80GB portable Hard disk drive (OS 22483, Serial No.
2CAZ0671) From Cassette World (I) Pvt. Ltd., 343 Rajesh Bldg, Opp Lamington road police station, D.B. Marg, Mumbai 400007 (tel. 022-23895353), on 15th Nov 2007 for Rs. 2,850
( Two thousand eight Hundred and fifty only),
1. at the time of purchase it was told that it carries a warranty for 5
yrs and you will be provided onsite warranty for the product.
2. but in the bill only 900 days warranty mentioned. and at was also
stamped that warranty support will be directly from service centre.
3. The product worked for 6 months and then stopped working.
4. I went to the shop from where i purchased the product, but they refused
to talk and said to contact service centre only.
5. I contacted service centre as my product was under onsite warranty, but
they told me that onsite warranty will be provided only in cities where
they don't have service centre so i will have to see the service centre in
person with original bill and product.
5. As i am a Doctor and working at Tata Memorial centre(Cancer Hospital),
i hardly get time, even though i managed to get some time and went to
service centre on saturday but came to know that service centre is closed
on saturdays.
6. Somehow i took leave on a working day and went to service centre, but i
was told that my product is out of warranty, i showed them the original
bill dated 15th nov 2007 with mention of 900 days warranty, but they told
me that as per their online system it is out of warranty or product may be
not geniune.
7. i again went to the shop and told about this, he then called up
somebody and then said me to go again to service centre. this time also
service centre people refused to give replacement as product was out of
warranty.
8. i went to the shop once again (on 09/02/09) , then he said to deposit
the hard disk and cable with him and come back after 20 days.
9. After 20 days, i called up many times but he always use to say that it
is not ready and will take another few days.
10. finally when he said that your product is ready and you can come and
collect on any working day only.
11. i took another leave and went to the shop but he then said that he
cant give me the replacement as the product is out of stock, i argued
that it is their responsibility to give me replacement, finally he said
that he will give me 120 GB hard disk insted of 80 GB but i will have to
pay the difference money, I agreed to pay the money and take 120 GB as it
was too expensive to visit the shop every time ( one day leave costs me
Rs. 1000 + Travelling ). But he said that for that also i will have to
come some another day as 120 GB was also out of stock.
12. again when i called up to confirm when can i go to collect the
product, he asked me more money and said that he will now give me 160 GB
insted of 80 GB. when i said him to send the product by post or courier at
my address and i will pay by cheque then he refused to accept cheque and
insisted on cash payment only.
13. Till date i have not recieved my replacement for the product which is under warranty.
14. I have already spent more than Rs.3000 for a product which costs less
than this.Apart from that, the mental stress and the hectic travelling.
I want compensation and a strict action should be taken so that they dont
sell duplicate or fradulent items along with original bill to believe
them.
Consequences : Actual cost of the product: Rs. 2850.00
Expenses to travel and to take leaves accounts for 3500.00
Mental stress to me and inconvenience cased to my patients is priceless.
