Indian doctors will soon have a tool for early detection of eye infections that will help prevent its spread and possible vision damage, especially in newborns, a senior scientist said Friday.

"Under the CSIR-led New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI), we have developed a microchip based on diagnostic methods for early intervention for infectious eye diseases and glaucoma," said D. Yogeswara Rao, head of the Technology Networking and Business Development Division of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
