I had taken travel insurance for my family including my two year old son from HDFC Ergo. My son fell sick abroad with a viral fever and we had to visit a physician. I paid the expenses from my pocket and submitted the bills/doctor prescription and all other relevant documentation to claim the money from the travel insurance. The claim documents were submitted in May 2011. After several rounds of discussion with the insurance agents and submitting/re-submitting several pages of paper work, the claim amount was approved in Aug 2011. The refund cheque was posted to my address in Chennai from Mumbai and it never reached me till date (05 Nov 2011). Several calls and emails later, the answer given was the courier company does not deliver to my area in Chennai. After another round of emails, the answer is that the cheque was sent through speed post and the tracking number given to me shows that the cheque was delivered to an address in Mumbai!!!!(Not Chennai!). and they have closed the case without realising the mistake. A bunch of fools work for HDFC Ergo. Never ever get a travel insurance from HDFC. One of the worst services that I have experienced. I have travelled abroad a lot and having tried a lot of travel insurance providers feel that HDFC is one of the worst. I would never recommend it to the corporate people as they travel for work and in addition to the work pressure abroad have to deal with a bunch of such professionals who cant post a cheque to an address in Chennai properly. Please think before you go for a travel insurance from HDFC Ergo.
