    Default Thomascook India cheated us

    Hi

    Me, Avik De and my father, Prof. Uday Chand De of Kolkata went to Thomascook office in C.I.T. Road, Kolkata for Visa of Romania on April 8,2011. Previous day I had a conversation with their customer relation manager, Mr. Gautam over phone and he assured me by confirming from the head office that they could get the Romanian Visa for us within 15days. I did not have any written document as I could not understand at that point what was going to happen next.
    I needed the assurance because earlier my father's travel agent told us that we had to go to Delhi to get the Visa ourselves. On April 9,2011 we submitted all the documents that Mr. Gautam asked by email. He assured us that the documents would reach the Delhi office of Thomascook on April 11,2011 and will be submitted to the Embassy on the next day. I requested him to inform me as soon as the documents get submitted as I shall then call the Consulate. After almost 2 weeks, on April 23,2011 Mr.Gautam called me and asked me to submit the scanned copy of my father's salary slip. I asked him why he was asking about another documents after so many days. He said all the documents had already been submitted to Embassy and now they asked this document to issue the Visa. I am quite satisfied with the words and sent that the same day.
    On April 25,2011 again someone from Thomascook called me and asked about my mother's name and place of birth. I suspect and asked why he needed that and what was the status of my application and what is the exact date on which our applications were submitted. He informed me that Mr. Gautam would inform me shortly. He did not.
    Then on April 28,2011 I called Mr. Gautam to know the status and asked him to inform me the exact date of the submission. He told me he would do that shortly,but did not. Then I called him again after an hour and came to know that mu applications were NOT submitted at all. I was shocked, and Mr. Gautam refused to take responsibility other than sending the documents safely to Delhi office. I called several nos. of Thomascook to Delhi and aslo to Kolkata headoffices. Some personnel told me to visit Delhi next day and submit the documents by my own. But there was no train ticket even in Tatkal scheme. And flight ticket is more than Rs. 11,000 up and down and there is only 4days left to fly to Romania.

    I have sent several emails to the service center and got only one reply that they are now trying to get the Visa, nothing else. But today also they could not submit the Visa, and I do not hope they can tomorrow also. So I must cancel my airticket due to negligence and lying of Thomascook. I shall lose around Rs. 30,000.

    Kindly suggest me how to take legal step against them.

    Now some officers are saying that they can not do anything about what Mr. Gautam has told us. How can a company refuses to take the responsibility of their employees in such a way?

    We are going to attend a conference, it is huge loss, more than the monetary things.

    I know that getting Visa is not in some travel agent's hand, but first of all they should inform me at the first day that there may be some problem in getting Romanian Visa as our previous travel agent informed us. And at least they should inform us after trying for 2-3days that they could not be able to submit the documents, on the contrary Mr. Gautam was constantly lying to us that the documents were in Embassy already.

    Why should we suffer?

    While I sympathise with what happened to you, Visa processing is not completely upto a tour operator in this case Thomas Cook India. Some other authorities involved also delay the process and especially in India.

    I can understand your plight. The visa laws have changed so much that one has to rely on the consulate. I don't think there is any delay from a travel agencies end.
