My Nokia N81 was stolen while I was traveling in BEST bus in Mumbai.
Police did not lodge the FIR, instead simply they gave a piece of paper and mentioned the mobile IMEI and wrote as "LOST", just because they dont want to show the elevated no. of crimes under their Police station Area. Further no support. As per police we should contact the Network provider to Block the IMEI also.
When contacted the Network provider (Vodafone in my case), I was told that they do not offer the service, I should contact the Manufacturer.
When Contacted the Nokia Care, again I was told that the tracking and Blacklisting of IMEI is done by Network operator.
I am trapped into a loop. No one, Neither Police nor Network operator and not the Manufacturer either has shown any interest.
I know I am not a VIP to hope the System will work on my favour. But I feel to stop the Mobile Theft it is necessary for the Government to come forward because this may account for any Threat also.
Suppose in case your stolen mobile is used by anti-social elements (like Terrorists / Smugglers etc.) and Police manages to find the IMEI no. And quite possible they will approach you, since you purchased the equipment. So finally the one who sufers is the End user.
It is very shocking to see that even TRAI has not issued any guidelines for such an offence. And even more shocking as it seems from TRAI website is that it was last updated on June-2009 (14 Months back).
TRAI has all the guidelines for Cable TV, Tariffs and Blah.. Blah.. Blah.. But simply nothing for issues which relates directly to the NATIONAL SECURITY.
It is not like that no body knows this fact. But the thing is Everyone, The Network Provider, the Manufacturer and Even the government bodies such as Police and TRAI seems to be geeting some Cream from it.
This leads to Flaws into the system which needs to be rectified.
