Default RTI a powerful tool in the hands of citizens

    Dear All,
I filed an RTI application on 27.02.2006 through email to Chennai passport
Office for seeking information regarding delay in issuing passport to the
applicants. To-day( 13.03.2006) I received the mail from the effected person,
stating that the pass port has been delivered. This passport application was
pending for more than 100 days at passport office.
From this we can make out that RTI is a powerful tool in the hands of citizens.
I am waiting for the official reply for my application from the passport office
    chennai.
    with regards,

There is something amiss in this mail? While Mr.Anil has stated the fact that
RTI is working, your statement mentions that is not powerful? What do you mean
by this? In Karnataka, a powerful activist+NGO's coordination informally known
as KRIA KATTE 9Karnaataka Right to....... Katte means forum)has been formed and
has also an egroup. This is workign very well as seen by many statements by
Government and their Pubications. We are able to see results after great amount
of persevarance and grit. At present our friends have even suceeded in getting
`Suo motto' declaration as per Section 4 in many organisations. This is very
interesting. Some IAS officers have also been pulled up by the State Chief
Information Commission for deriliction. So the contradiction needs to be
    corrected.
