Default Standard Chartered Bank Credit Card

This has reference to my SCB Credit Card No. 5546-2329-XXXX-5089.

The above mentioned credit card of mine had expired in March 2010 following which i was not issued any new card. However in December 2010, I received a bill showing INR 14,766.36 for transactions done in month of November 2010. These transactions were not done by me and subsequently reported to the bank. After much follow up, on July 16 2011 SCB wrote back to me that they are revering the transactions. However, all this while i kept on receiveing calls from collection department of the bank. When I raised this issue with the customer care, i was told to ignore these calls and reversals of my transactions would be done soon. However it has been over 4 months now and the dispute over the transaction still continues. Moreover, the bank has levied interest payments and late payment charges and now the amount due has been pegged at INR 30,012. Additionally, the bank has also put my name in CIBIL. Moreover, the customer care department has not replied to my complaints and follow ups.

I have been asking the banks the following questions:

    1. How can a card be charged after after 9 months of expiry?
    2. While the bank agreed that to reverse these transactions in July 2011 itself, why has it not been done?
    3. While the bank has failed to sort the issue in time, why am i being charged for late payments and interest?

I have communicated to the bank that I am ready to pay the Original amount of INR 14,766.36, the banks has refused to do away with the interest charges. Reason for this given "As the card is not active, interest rates cannot be reversed". i find it extremely difficult (and funny) that the bank can charge a expired card, but not reverese the transactions.

I find it extremely disappointing that a multi national banks like Standard Chartered has been unable to address this complain for over a year now.

    Regards,
    Satish Tiwari.
