You can count on personal of Barclays Edgware Road Branch to add an extra stress to your day. They are very happy to explain to you what they can not do for you, and not what they can do for you. People working there, Wojcek Wolovicz in particular, are sarcastic and actually argue with you instead of helping you and giving you accurate information. On number of occasions, I felt helpless, and when I decided to close the account because of the poor services and customer treatment, Wolovicz response was ‘I am happy to do that for you’. This is one person, but being with Barclays for five years I think that attitude actually gives very accurate picture of the Barclays bank.
Recently I needed a proof of my savings with Barclays. They can not write a letter confirming authenticity of your saving account statement. They can not in fact write any kind of letter because they have only one template. You may order the statement for which they promise it will arrive in 5 working days. Last time I have ordered the letter it did not arrive in 10 days. When I took another time off my work to check why I have not received the statement, they were clueless. However, they promised to order it again.
To summarise, you can not relay on Barclays to give you a fundamental service- such as a proof of your funds with them. But what is worse, you can not count on them to treat you respectfully as their loyal customer. For them you are an enemy and they are ‘very happy to close an account for you’ to quote Wolovizc.
