I was using a HSBC credit card untill Aug 2008. I was going out of the country so I requested them to cancel the card. The last date for the payment of the amount was on 29th of Aug. I dropped the check [ICICI cheque] in one of their drop box on 7th of Aug (this day I traveled out of the country). This check was not submitted to the bank for almost a month so I enquired with the bank (customer care) and they told me that they did not receive the payment and they have applied a late fee + interest on the due amount. So I cancelled this check and asked my friend to write another check to HSBC bank and requested ICICI to block the payment on the cheque which I issued earlier. On that very same day the cheque was produced in the bank for clearance and as the instructions were to stop payment, HSBC did not get the payment from the first cheque.
My friend paid the bill later, but they had charged the interest and late fee on the amount due. For this I called the customer care and got this thing clarified. The representative of the bank told me that she is reverting all the late fees and interest amount [this amount was Rs. 1200 only]. After this there was no communication between me and HSBC. Last year I applied for Home Loan and I came to know that because of the report sent by HSBC to CIBIL, I will not get the loan. As per that report, there was an amount of Rs. 8500 due, which I had not paid. For this I communicated with HSBC nodal officer and in a period of one and a half month they finally reverted all the charges. Last month I applied for a credit card, and again because of the record that is maintained by CIBIL, my application got rejected. In this regard HSBC is not taking any corrective action, and thus, they are causing continued problem for me. Are there any provision/law which can force them to fix this issue?
