I am holding a Barclays Times Credit card from quite a while and would like to brought this incident which happened some time back.
From past 3-4 months I had been getting calls from Barclays Sales representative convincing me to upgrade to the Priority Circle. I ignored those calls initially but later decided to explore the benefits associated with the Priority circle membership. One of the offer which really made my mind to take this membership is that I can avail 50% discount on any one item purchased from cafegadets.com online electronics portal. I clearly asked the representative 3-4 times that is this offer applicable for all the items listed on cafegadgets.com or is this offer only applies for selected items? The representative told me clearly that the offer applies on each and every item listed on this website and also asked me to go and check the items listed on this website. He also gave me the example of Sony Waio and told me that even if you purchase this laptop worth Rs ~ 125000 you are eligible for 50% discount. I got pretty excited after hearing this and applied for this membership by paying ~Rs 4500.
Later on when I received the membership kit, I checked the offers from Cafegadgets.com and realized that the URL mentioned in the kit was cafegadgets.com/barclay.php. I went and check this site extension and realized that only 15-20 items were listed over there and none of those items were needed by me and were priced in the range Rs 1000- 4000.
I realized that the sales guys communicated me wrong information to sell this membership and it's a case of complete fraud. None of the other offers are useful to me. And at the same time I lost the opportunity to take a similar membership from other institution which was only available till sometime back.
I brought this concern to barclay customer care over phone last month and they promised me to revert back with all the clarifications in a week time. But its been 40 days since I raised the complaint and till date I didn't receive any communication from you guys on this issue.
I am totally disappointed the way the bank has cheated me and on the top of it with the super slow customer care service of Barclays Bank.
After multiple follow-ups from my side over phone and email, bank guys finally spoke to me and after doing some investigation they reverted back accepting the fact that there was a miscommunication from their side and to correct that they would like to send me a gift worth Rs.2000 or they can also cancel the membership and will refund the fees. I told them clearly that this is not an appropriate compensation as I lost a very good opportunity just because of Barclays fake promises at the time of selling this membership. After that the representative said that she will speak to her manager and will get back to me.
After that I didn't hear back from Barclays from a long time and adding to the dismay I received an email from Barclays Customer Care stating -
" We understand that you have certain reservations regarding the amount debited to your card account towards the Barclaycard Priority Circle offer. We have checked our records and wish to inform you that the amount towards BPC membership has been debited based on the recorded confirmation you have provided to our associate.
As per the agreed terms and conditions, we will not be able to cancel the offer as requested by you."
First of all, they only offered me to cancel this membership with complete refund to bury down this matter which I never asked for. Now they are saying your request for membership cancellation has been rejected.
I am totally disappointed with this bank and would like to take legal against Barclays, India.Can someone please suggest the next steps.
