    Default Barclays Credit Card - Priority Circle Membership Fraud

    I am holding a Barclays Times Credit card from quite a while and would like to brought this incident which happened some time back.
    From past 3-4 months I had been getting calls from Barclays Sales representative convincing me to upgrade to the Priority Circle. I ignored those calls initially but later decided to explore the benefits associated with the Priority circle membership. One of the offer which really made my mind to take this membership is that I can avail 50% discount on any one item purchased from cafegadets.com online electronics portal. I clearly asked the representative 3-4 times that is this offer applicable for all the items listed on cafegadgets.com or is this offer only applies for selected items? The representative told me clearly that the offer applies on each and every item listed on this website and also asked me to go and check the items listed on this website. He also gave me the example of Sony Waio and told me that even if you purchase this laptop worth Rs ~ 125000 you are eligible for 50% discount. I got pretty excited after hearing this and applied for this membership by paying ~Rs 4500.
    Later on when I received the membership kit, I checked the offers from Cafegadgets.com and realized that the URL mentioned in the kit was cafegadgets.com/barclay.php. I went and check this site extension and realized that only 15-20 items were listed over there and none of those items were needed by me and were priced in the range Rs 1000- 4000.

    I realized that the sales guys communicated me wrong information to sell this membership and it's a case of complete fraud. None of the other offers are useful to me. And at the same time I lost the opportunity to take a similar membership from other institution which was only available till sometime back.

    I brought this concern to barclay customer care over phone last month and they promised me to revert back with all the clarifications in a week time. But its been 40 days since I raised the complaint and till date I didn't receive any communication from you guys on this issue.

    I am totally disappointed the way the bank has cheated me and on the top of it with the super slow customer care service of Barclays Bank.

    After multiple follow-ups from my side over phone and email, bank guys finally spoke to me and after doing some investigation they reverted back accepting the fact that there was a miscommunication from their side and to correct that they would like to send me a gift worth Rs.2000 or they can also cancel the membership and will refund the fees. I told them clearly that this is not an appropriate compensation as I lost a very good opportunity just because of Barclays fake promises at the time of selling this membership. After that the representative said that she will speak to her manager and will get back to me.
    After that I didn't hear back from Barclays from a long time and adding to the dismay I received an email from Barclays Customer Care stating -
    " We understand that you have certain reservations regarding the amount debited to your card account towards the Barclaycard Priority Circle offer. We have checked our records and wish to inform you that the amount towards BPC membership has been debited based on the recorded confirmation you have provided to our associate.
    As per the agreed terms and conditions, we will not be able to cancel the offer as requested by you."

    First of all, they only offered me to cancel this membership with complete refund to bury down this matter which I never asked for. Now they are saying your request for membership cancellation has been rejected.

    I am totally disappointed with this bank and would like to take legal against Barclays, India.Can someone please suggest the next steps.

    Dear Sirs,

    This is to bring to your notice the unethical means employed by your sales / marketing team to fraudulently off load products on to unsuspecting customers.
    This took place sometime during the third week of Jan 2010.

    I was informed by a telemarketing from barclay card, that they were offering me (because I am a priority customer) card security insurance and medical insurance worth Rs.230,000/- for FREE!
    I twice inquired if there were any charges and the person insisted that this was with out any riders and absolutely free. Only, I had to repeat two magical words " I Confirm".
    So I repeated "I confirm"

    On the first of Feb 2010, I got an sms stating that my card was debited with Rs.999/- for the credit card insurance package!
    Immediately I call the customer service toll free no and registered a complaint, (No.CAS 3122851) with Mr. Sushant, explaining the situation. He assured me that the charges would be reversed.

    Two days later I received another call informing me that I will have to pay a penalty of Rs.250.00 if the policy is cancelled (caller claimed that the policy was issued because I had confirmed and that the same was recorded) and that only Rs.750.00 will be reversed in the next billing cycle!

    It does not take an Einstein to undetstand why the two words were coaxed out of unsuspecting customers.

    I would request you to initiate an investigation into the unethical practice and bring to book the persons involved.

    Further, I would like to return my credit card because I would not like to in anyway be associated with a company which promotes unethical practices hence please provide me the rectified statement so that I can clear my due within the billing cycle period.(24th Feb)

    BARCLAYCARD (CREDIT CARD) – FRAUD AND CHEATING

    I was holding a gold credit card of BARCLAYCARD (card No. 4339**********14 from the year of 2008.

    In the month of Fab 2010, someone executive is calling me from Barclaycards Mumbai call centre and said this is promotional campaign we provide you a new Platinum Barclaycard with credit limit of Rs. 1,00,000/-, for getting that card you can buy one MetLife Medical Policy from us in Rs. 7373 and they said we convert that policy transaction amount in monthly EMI and you can pay only two EMI Premium of the above policy.

    They are said, after paying of two premiums of the policy we stop your existing gold credit card and despatch your New Platinum Barclaycard with refund of two policy premiums as paid by you & card bonus of Rs. 3,500 by DD and balance policy premiums is paid by Barclaycard, this is promotion campaign and this is only for our 2-3 years old customers.

    After that, they will sell the above MetLife policy to me by phone call on online MetLife IVR Menu, he have all the details of my credit card, after holding me on phone he will feed all the details by self on IVR menu and debit the payment from my card, after 15 days i have received the policy by courier on my mailing address.

    After dispatching the policy paper every week they are calling me from telephone Nos. 022-42495000, 39534500, 39534600 and confirming the payment details of the policy.

    I am paying the two premiums of the policy in March & April Month, In May 2010 i had called to Barclaycards customer contact centre in Gurgaon on Telephone No. 0124-6752222 and asking for my new card despatch details. And they said we was not aware any promotional campaign & calls for the new card & policy.

    I am calling many times in Barclaycards customer contact centre & given the complaint against this fraud but every time he said will not sell the policy in this type of campaign. after all that, I requested them to cancel the above MetLife policy and my credit card also immediately. Now they responded saying I have to pay the full payments & fee as above and then can take up request for cancellation through different channel, by writing to their office address or talking to on phone.

    I do not intend to make the above payment as I feel cheated by Barclaycards by giving false information and their deliberate intention was to cheat.

    In July month they are calling me every day from morning 7.00 am to evening 7.30 pm in 15-20 times in a day on my mobile nos. from Mumbai telephone Nos. 022-42495000, 39534500, 39534600, and asking for a payment, every time i am telling for this complaint but they are not listen to me.

    My questions are
    1. Why the Barclaycard selling the MetLife Policy to Barclaycards customer?
    2. Who will authorized to Barclaycard for MetLife?

    This is totally fraud & cheating by Barclaycard.

    Where can I take legal recourse and what are the legal remedial courses available to me from this daylight robbery.

    NOW FROM THE 6TH OF AUGUST THEY ARE CALLING ME FROM THE MOBILE NOS. 9811806842, 9873023470, AND WARN ME FOR PAYMENT. THEY ARE TELLING ME GIVE US THE PAYMENT IMMEDIATELY OTHERWISE WILL RECOVER THE MONEY FROM OTHER TYPE OF SOURCE.

    Default Priority Circle Cheating

    I am a holder of BARCLAYS PLATINUM CREDIT CARD (Yatra Co branded)
    I got a call from some of their unethical employees and told about the so called PRIORITY CIRCLE programme. I have clearly told them that PLEASE SEND ME THE DETAILS, SO THAT I CAN GO THROUGH PRIOR TO ANY COMMITMENT.
    The very next month without any further information, they charged an amount of 8000 INR and on calling the call centre they told that the same will be reversed in next month. But they never did it. Further after 3 months they called and told me to make a payment of INR 400 in cash to their rep for the reversal of the same. To get rid of the irritating calls I agreed and paid the INR 400 in cash. But this time the call was made by another Unethical chap who did not do what he committed.
    This clearly shows that The Company itself is an unethical one.
