Angry Airtel: High interim pymt-low default credit limit

I've availed an iphone 4 plan on 15th of this month (15/12/2011) from Airtel for my iphone 4. The plan detail in a nutshell is

    Plan Name: iPhone 600 offer
Plan tariff: INR 600 (discounted at 50%)
    Data Usage Limit: 300 MB
Voice Usage: 550 Mins (Airtel to Airtel) free - approx
    Mobile Number: 9900755699

On 16th of december (the very next day of availing the plan), i received an SMS from Airtel saying that my unbilled usage as of midnight (16/12/2011) is Rs. 915.30 and then on 18th (18/12/2011) it is Rs. 1087.50 which is bit of a shock to me as i have to shell out an interim payment of Rs 900 extra from my pocket in less than 5 days of availing the connection and with less than half of my allowance consumed. I called up Airtel customer care several times to understand why i have been charged so much in less than 5 days of availing the connection, but everytime i call them, i always get a stereo type response that we can't check the exact breakup of the usage till the day bill gets generated. This is caused a major inconvenience to me as All the outgoing calls from my mobile has been barred until i make this interim payment of Rs. 900

    1. It is my understanding that if i am given a data allowance of 300 MB, then I should be able to consume all the data for that month without any interim payment request from Airtel. It is only when i exceed my free data allowance of 300 MB that i should be charged extra. In my case, I have consumed only 140 MB of data so far.

    2. As far as the voice usage goes, I should be able to consume all those 550 mins of Airtel to Airtel voice allowance for that month. It is only when i exceed this voice allowance for that month, I should be charged.

If the above statements are true, then help me understand

    1. Why my credit limit is low. The person from customer care told me that my credit limit has been set to Rs.500 only. This default setting of such low amount is not enough for availing data plans like iPhone plan. A simple calculation to show how much credit limit i need to have, inorder to consume all my 300 MB of data usage alone without incurring interim payment for that month is Rs. 3072 ((300*1024 * 10p/10KB)/100) approximately. Adding the calls (airtel-airtel, airtel to other networks, STD, SMS) to this, i need to have a bare minimum credit limit of atleast Rs 4500-5000 by default in order to enjoy uninterrupted service from Airtel.

Unlike any 2G plans/voice only plans, you can't set a default credit limit of Rs.500 initially for iphone 4 plans. A simple calculation above shows that i need to have a bare minimum of Rs. 5000 credit limit. What If i have to take a plan for more data allowance, for instance 600 MB/1 GB for which the credit limit works out to Rs 7000/Rs 10,000. Is it really justified to have default credit limit setting of Rs. 500 for such high data allowance plans?

    2. Why do i need to make an interim payment of Rs.900, when I have not even consumed half of my free usage allowance? Like I mentioned above, the default credit limit should be around Rs. 5000 to enjoy uninterrupted service from Airtel. If this continues, then every month i would be required to pay similar payments and it would cost me a fortune

    3. The customer care rep told me that the credit limit could be extended to Rs. 2500 on request without any additional deposit. This is not enough for the reason that the iPhone plan itself has been designed for 300 MB of free data allowance. In other words the credit limit by default should be around Rs. 5000. I have all my ID proofs submitted in whitefield airtel showroom already. Incase, you need more proofs like income proofs etc i can submit to them. Airtel demanding more money when the plan itself is designed to support such data/voice allowance limits is completely unjustified. Airtel should provide the required credit limit by default

    4. Kindly do not respond that "Your unbilled amount is 1087. Your exact usage will be known only during the bill generation". I have heard this statement so many times in the last 6 hours from Airtel customer care and whitefield airtel franchise.

I have not found any favourable response and some of the services have been disabled from my mobile phone. My work has been deeply affected as I am not able to make calls or browse on the go. Kindly assist in resolving this situation and re-organize the activation of my mobile connection as soon as possible

    Hi There,

Same problem is being faced by me in Delhi. I got an iphone 4s plan of 2000 with a discount of 1000 rs pm.

    The plan is :

    Phone No. :9971116140
    Free data Usage: 2GB
    Free Voice Minutes:1500 minutes

I took the plan on 5th of Feb and withing 5 days my data usage was close to 600 MB. The unbilled amount calculated by system is more than Rs.6000 and i have recieved messege for paying 1900 as of now. Although my data usage as of now is less than my data usage limit i.e.2GB the billing system has calculated it 6000 and my number has been put under OGB.

How can this be possile that even though my usage is less than the limit my phone is put for an OGB. Theoriticaly speaking in this case if i have to consume my 2GB data usage then i will have to shell out 20000 before using this although the bill generated will be Rs.2000 only.

    Regards,
    Manish

Default Drastic reduction of credit limit

I have an airtel postpaid connection 8105854444 in the karnataka circle.
I bought the sim in february and had the credit limit increased in april to 5000.
However, one fine morning, I got a msg that my credit limit has been set to 500. I make heavy use of my phone and have an airtel 2g pack of 1 gb.
This credit limit is too low for me as my unbilled amount increases very fast due to high internet usage. I need atleast rs. 5000 as my limit.
Also, a download of arnd 40 mbs sees a jump of 1500 rs. in the amt.

Please address this issue asap as the customet care execs said max is 2500 till one year from date of commencement of services.

    Regards,
    Aseem Shandilya
