    Angry Airtel post paid connection:discrimination against home makers

    My wife had a prepaid connection for almost 10 years. She has recently given up her job and is currently between jobs. Over the past few months she has been using her cell to make ISD calls to a few of her friends. This caused constant rechanrging of her pre paid account. She decided to convert the account to post paid. The representative at the airtel customer service center filled in the application and took photocopies of the proofs for name/photo/address and mentioned her designation as home maker (since she did not hold a job at present). Airtel activated the post paid account in 48 hours. They also sent her a welcome note that had a differences in the tariff plan. ISD calls to the Gulf countries (earlier Rs 9 was now Rs 11). She complained to the customer care about it. She also enquired when the STD ISD would be activated and was informed that this would be activated after the address verification was complete.
    A week later my wife called again and her STD/ISD was not activated. she was informed that her address verification was negative as she was unemployed. People who are unemployed cannot hold an airtel post paid connection. She had called the nodal officer at airtel to complain about this unfair practice of airtel. The nodal officer said he would look into the matter. Within 2 hours all outgoing local calls were barred (even 121 airtel customer care). In case she required to make any emergency calls her airtel post paid connection was useless. Airtel did not even bother to intimate her about this blocking of outgoing calls.
    The only response to our complaints is an automated acknowledgment mail.
