Thumbs down Misled by Airtel Relationship Centre and subsequent harassment by Airtel

    Dear Admin/ Moderator,

This is a rather long complaint, hence would request you to be patient and to help me out if possible.

To give you the background in brief, I approached Airtel Relationship Centre in Mahim (West) (Flat 1&1A, Bhaskar Bhuwan, 233, L J Road), Mumbai on 12th August 2009 inquiring about the wireline broadband connection. I told the guy (I have his name and number) that my requirement is an 'unlimited broadband connection' through wireline and asked him to check for the availability in my building. Even before confirming if the connection could be made available in my building, he told me that Airtel has launched a '3G Data Card' which will give me speed of 3.6 Mbps and the cost of same is Rs 3000 for the data card, Rs 500 for activation and Rs 599+taxes per month for unlimited data download. He also showed me the Airtel data card package on which is written 3G and claims speed of up to 3.6 Mbps. Though I was surprised by this offer I specifically asked him to confirm if I would actually get speed of upto 3.6 Mbps, but he convinced me that I would actually be able to get speed of upto 3.6 Mbps and that it would be like what Tata Photon+ gives.

I gave him all the documents and paid him Rs 3500 in cash (including Rs 3000 for data card and Rs 500 for activation - the receipt of this is available with me). He told me that guys for verification would visit my place in couple of days and in case I am not available they would visit again after giving me a call. It was very nice of him to activate the data card within one hour of me purchasing it. However when I started browsing I realised that its maximum speed wasnt going beyond 256 Kbps. I called up the Airtel data card technical help and was told by the customer care executive that I have been misguided and that Airtel doesnt provide 3G services as yet. He asked me to talk to the Manager of the Relationship Centre I bought the data card from.

Coincidentally I got a call from the guy who had sold me the data card saying that I need to pay Rs 500 more and that he had charged me less by mistake. I told him about the speed problem and he said some other customers are also not getting speed of 3.6 Mbps and that I should come to the Relationship Centre with the data card.

I went to the same Relationship Centre on 19th of August 2009 and was asked by him to register a complaint over the phone from their office only regarding the problem of speed. I registered the complaint (Number 546771095) and was told that someone would call me within 24 hrs. No one called me for upto 48 hrs and then I called up the customer care again on 21st August 2009. The guy then told me that the engineer has been busy with something else and that he would call me within 3-4 hrs and as always I didnt get any call. Meanwhile a guy (I have his name and contact number) visited my place for verification on 20th August 2009, when no one was at home as both me and my wife were at work. He also left a slip with his mobile number. I gave him a call and told him that he could visit my place till 1:30 PM on 21st August and that I would be taking half day off from office or he could visit my place on 22nd August i.e. Saturday anytime after 3 PM. He confirmed with me that he would visit on 21st of August before 1:30 PM, but as with the calls to Airtel customer care, the guy also never made that visit.

On 24th August the data card stopped working and on calling the customer care I was told that the number has been barred. The reason for this was that the verification was rejected, however the guy failed to give me the reason for rejection of verification as the verification guy never made the second visit which hes supposed to.

I was also billed for the brief period that this data card was active and the same was fully recovered from the activation charges (I was initially told that activation charges would be adjusted against subsequent bills).

Further, I had numerous email communications with 121 and Nodal Officer for reasons of rejection of verification and about the fact that I have been misled to believe that the data card would offer speed of 3.6 Mbps - but I was only told that the number (i.e. 9892689389) has been barred and cannot be reactivated again. I did not pursue the matter beyond this and just made myself believe that I have lost Rs 3500 and got a net connection from another service provider.

However, on 30th September 2009, I received a bill from Airtel for this number with Rs 500 as one time charges and rental of Rs 599 for the period 23-Aug-2009 to 22-Sep-2009. Please note that the data card has not been in use and was deactivated by Airtel during this period.

My complaints (on which I hope someone in Airtel would act upon) in brief are:

    1. I was misled to believe that the Airtel 3G Data Card would give me speed of 3.6 Mbps when ever I start using it, which it did not. This was despite the fact that I had clearly told the Airtel representative at the Relationship Centre that I need a high speed unlimited broadband connection.

    2. How can my number be barred on grounds of rejection of verification when the guy visited me only once and did not visit me when we had fixed up the time? If he is was not supposed to visit the second time, why did he not tell me the same when I called him to schedule the visit?

    3. How does Airtel expect me to pay rental for the number (i.e. 9892689389) for which I have been told several times that it has been barred and cannot be reactivated again and that I would have to get another number?

    4. How many times would Airtel charge me the 'One Time Charges' of Rs 500?

While the Nodal Officer (nodalofficer.mumbai@airtel.in) didnt understand what my complaint is, I havent received any response from the Appellate Officer (appellate.mumbai@airtel.in) during the promised time.

Below are the several reference numbers I've received from them:

    Unique Reference numbers:

    240820098816
    300920099142
    31020093085
    4102009670
    41020091221
    41020092322
    71020097810
    81020098991

    Service Request Numbers:
    546771095
    28644331
    28707509

My only request now is that Airtel takes back the data card I had purchased and refund me with the amount (i.e. Rs 3000) I have paid towards the same. The number has been barred so I guess I dont need to do anything about it. I do not wish to continue with Airtel as far as this data card and its number are concerned. I have already suffered enought harrassment by hands of Airtel and would request you to please bring an end to this. I have been a postpaid customer of Airtel for the past more than 4 years without much hassles - but today cannot wait for the day when number portability is introduced.

I hope you would be able to do something about this at the earliest.

    Regards,

    Suyash

    Default Airtel Harassment

    Dear Admin,

My name is Capt. Vinay Nadkarni. I had applied for an Airtel data card internet connection on the 10th of May, 2010 (I have the receipts for this). After installing the modem, the internet was not connecting so I went back to the Airtel Relationship Centre in Mahim (Flat 1&1A, Bhaskar Bhuwan, 233, L J Road) the very same day. They informed me that they have processed the request to activate and that it would be functional by the next morning. When I checked the internet the next morning, it was still not working. I went back to the Relationship Centre and they told me that there was some problem with the Sim Card that was given to me to plug in to the modem. They replaced the Sim Card and said that it would be activated in a couple of hours. I came back home and waited till the next day but the internet was still not working. I went back to the Relationship Centre yet again, this time they said that there was some problem with the new connections. They forwarded a mail to their complaint department and said that it would be sorted out by the next morning. Unsuprisingly, the net was still not working the next day. I called the Relationship Centre and person who picked up said that he would get back to me in half an hour. He did not even bother calling and when I called him again, he said that the systems were down that day. I warned him that I would make an officail complaint if the problem was not rectified by the next morning. He promised that he would look into it and sms me the next morning as to the progress of the case. As of today, I have still not recieved any message from them. When I try calling them, they are cutting the call. I have all the names of the employees attached to this issue. If need be, I will forward them to you. If the connection cannot be started today, I want a full refund of Rs.2100 from the company.

    Thank You

Thumbs down No refund of the deposit money- it's been about six months now

    Dear sir/madam,
I had migrated to Airtel prepaid service from postpaid and this I was supposed to get Rs. 500 back which I had paid as a deposit mandatory for postpaid connection. I kept waiting for weeks, the months and kept following up with Airtel customer care. No use. Postpaid guys said it was prepaid case and vice versa. Tried to talk to their so called manager also. He was no different. He promised to get back in few minutes and true to their tradition and culture did not bother about getting back.
Their customer care employees are either ill-trained or careless. One gives u one information and another take shelter under SWEET APOLOGY and say another thing.
Finally I got fed up and exhuasted and gave up following up. Hoping that if not phone calls at least the emails which I had sent then would be noticed sometime. But in-vain!! Airtel is still rich by Rs 500 which it owes to me.
I was provoked today to write this for I started having similar problem with the broadband connection by Airtel again !!

Default Airtel Customer Care/Nodal Officer- Complaint against them

    Hi All,

Its been a havoc experince with Airtel for last 1 month and i actually i started losing sleep and mentally disturbed because of their behaviour and also no action has not been taken.

The problem is they terminated the connection because of non payment and it was done without even giving a warning or may be informing. I still understand there was a delay but we made the payment on 23rd September and they disconnected line from 24th Sep so i cant say that its just because of payment as they had recieved payment and i think its online and so we dont need to worry on updating status.

I am still ok on that but the follow up after that has been like hell situation. They told my connection will be restored by 4th Oct. and i patiently waited for that and on 5th Oct i called them and they they had new story that they need to collect the documents i said you should have collected in last 10 days and they said an irresponsible response that we dont know executives were busy or so...
Later they collected documents after my complaints to Nodal office and Appelate on 7th October and still things didnt worked out and executive from Nodal office or Appelate keep us on hold whenever i call for 10 mins or 15 mins sometimes they dont even come back on call. Is this you called Customer Service?
And they always tell me they will call in 10 mins and i never recieved any call and its like a person sitting and waiting for this response and these people dont have curtosey.. Should i move to court for Disturbing us mentally and harrasing us in one or other way.. We are really fed up

    Can you please help

    Unhappy continuously deduction of balance

    Dear Sir/mam

I am the airtel customer from since last five year. From last few months some deduction happened in my airtel balance. As on 16/01/2011 my account balance deduct approx Rs 50/-. When regarding the same i call to airtel customer care on 198 number then customer care executive (CCE) told me that you had use some services for which we deduct the balance. I told him that even i dont have the GPRS setting on my cell phone then how can i use these services. Actualy i dont use any such kind of the services from my airtel number.
When i request him for refund my balance then he (CCE) reply that we cannot refund your balance.
As i continuously use the same number even in that case they don't recognize me then how can they provide the best services to rest of the customer.

You are requested to kindly intervene in this matter , as i had got lots of harassment due to periodically deductions.

    Thanking You

Thumbs down Airtel Customer Service and Illegal Deductions

I thought Idea Cellular customer service people did not have enough knowledge about their product and could never answer any query satisfactorily.
And I thought Airtel was much better than the rest.
Well..guess what! I was wrong. And i have no qualms in admitting it.

Airtel has the worst service ever.
I got myself a new Pre-Paid connection (9860646001) to get my BB activated.
After activation of the card they said BB would be activated in about 24 hours.
I took about 3 days actually to get things started.

And the moment I started using Airtel, automatic deduction of Rs.60 took place. And for what - the filthy service of FriendzChat and some Astrology shite.
I contacted their customer service and they said they would look into it. But for a good 5 days there was no response.
And umpteen calls later when i finally got through a customer executive, i was bound to lose my temper (for having answered the same lame questions over and over again).
The outburst of anger came as i used a single profane word (and I'm not apologizing for it - EVER!)
The agent has the audacity to say- "Sabhyata se baat keejiye"
Well - Mr."Sabhyata" if only you guys worked with "sabhyata" users wouldn't have to lose it on you.

Secondly - having spoken to their manager - a certain Mr. Mukesh who assured that the deductions would be refunded that very day - it was no surprise that for the next 4 days there was no such transaction made.

And to top it all - they even blocked my number from being connected to the customer care service numbers (121 and 198).

This is surely a silver lining for Airtel.
If you can't handle a customer and complaints against their company - the best is to block the customer.
I say, it's a wonderful scheme to keep customer at bay. But do they realize that Consumer Forums do take up our case and fight for us.
Let them also remember that the common man is backed by the media.

If I wish to indulge in charity- it is my choice where and how I give my money. I will never appreciate a brand like Airtel STEALING my money from my account.
