I have my Nokia 5800 set which was working fine till 29th March, 2011 afternoon. But suddenly It became dead. I tried to turn it on many times but it didn't. So I thought of showing it to Nokia Service Center instead of going to any local repair center because I (used to) trust Nokia Service Center.
Now at Nokia Service Center (At kormanagala, Bangalore) I came across the service executive "Mr. Thoshif" who told that warranty is expired and he took the set and told me to wait for 30 mins then he will tell what the issue is. I went back again after 1 hr to check and then he made me sit and here is the conversation:
Thoushif: Sir, your cell has hardware problem and estimated cost is 1700 Rs.
Me: what 1700? What is the problem? What part is problematic?
Thoshif: Sir, some hardware issue is there we have checked and need to be repaired.
Me: 1700 is too much. Give me my phone back I'll show it to local shop and get it repaired.
Thoshif: Sir they will steal real part costing around 2-3 K and then repair your set. Better you give it here itself, It will be done in 1.7K only.
Me: No No, I will better purchase a new cheap phone instead of getting this repaired in 1.7K. Or may be I'll decide after sometime if I have to spend 1.7 k or not.
Thoshif: Sir, if you come after two days, I can not guarantee you 1.7k. It'll go up.
Me: What, what is this, even after two days problem would be same. how can it go up?
Thoshif: It will.
Me: Ok, give me my phone back. I don't want to get it repaired.
Thoshif: Ok sir, give me two mins.
After that he wrote "cost is too high for customer" and then sent the Job Sheet back to the repair room. and then after two mins he called me and said.
Thoshif: Ok sir, we will do it for 1200. You leave your cell here and you will get it back on 3rd April, 2011.
Me: [shocked to listen to this] what??? How come suddenly in 2 mins repair/parts cost went down from 1700 to 1200?
Thoshif: As cost is too high for you, we reduced it. Or tell me how much you are willing to pay.
Me: [surprised again..] Am i purchasing some vegetable or something that you are bargaining? If a part is broken and it costs for 1.7k (2 mins back) how can you repair same part in 1.2K(now). Either you were bluffing before or bluffing now.
After this conversation, I asked his name so that I can escalate but he didn't tell me and asked me to speak to dispatch person "Mr. Madhu Shetty". Now Mr. Madhu gave lots of here and there excuses to justify Mr Thoshif's action/statements but I had already lost trust on any of their words. So I left.
I went back home and next day, just like that I put battery again to my dead phone .... and what ... it started working....
Now can anyone from Nokia Representative Team, care to explain me what was all that which "Mr Thoshif" was telling me and trying to convince me to spend 1.7K on a completely working cell phone? Is this the way Nokia Serveice Center cheat its customers? I went there because I trust they would not make fool of a customer but after this incidence I would never ever believe Nokia Service Center.
I would better move to some other brand (Samsung which I used to use before and never had this kind of service issue) rather then going for Nokia again unless I get a proper explanation of what has happened in my case.
[I have the jobsheet xerox and the paper xerox where he did all 1.7k and 1.2k calculation with me.]
