    Angry Overcharging and Harassment by Airtel Bangalore

    Hi Sir,

    My name is Subrata. This is regarding my airtel mobile bill and the subsequent legal notice for nonpayment of mobile bill. When I moved to Bangalore I took theservices from AIrtel. I got a postpaid number 9900019583. The services were 2G as I did not ask for 3G services. For two months I paid my bill on time then I experienced a lot of cross talk during calls so I brought that to Airtel’s notice. They told me that they will resolve that within 14 days which never happened but I got another shock. they disconnected my services saying that my usage has exceeded my credit limit and my unbilled usage was somewhat around 7000 (Just to bring to your notice my credit limit was 2500 at that time). I spoke to their customer care and spoke to them. I told them that I did not make any international calls and there is no way my usage would have been crossed 2K. They told me that they don’t have any knowledge about it and I will only come to know about the itemized bill after the bill gets generated and I have to make an interim payment to get the services again. I called them several times saying there might be a mistake but they never heard me. So I switched to Vodafone.

    Finally I got my bill and was surprised to see that they have charged me around 6500 for data charges. I was using 2G services and I told them even if I continuously download data I will not reach that level. They argued that their bill was correct. I told them even if I have made that usage I always thought that my services will be disconnected when I will reach 2500 limit as that was my credit limit. They did not have any answer for me. All they told me was they kept my services running to serve me better which I see as to cheat me better. I told them I am willing to pay 2500 as that was my credit level but they were adamant that I had to pay everything. Then they kept on sending the bills but I did not pay as I never wanted to pay more than the legitimate amount. I got calls from their collection team which were very rude but I stuck to my point. They asked me to pay 3000 to settle, so I asked them to send me an email from an Airtel email ID for my reference and just to get rid of the annoyance I agreed to pay the sum. But they never wrote me they just insisted to make the payment first which I never did. Now they have sent an legal notice to me. I never faced it and I don’t want to be punished for the crime they have done. Please help me out.

    Hi,

    It has not been resolved yet. Please see my concerns below. I do not want to approach Airtel customer care as they never helped me out. they are claiming that the data charges do not count towards the total credit limit. Well see my answer below.

    Your 2gb airtel internet package costs only 98 rupees. So this is very unfair. Also how I am supposed to know that the credit limit applies only to call and SMS? Even so why my services have been barred when it approached 5k when the call charges where not even 1600 (if 2500 is the limit) and when I asked then how it approached 5000 your call center reps told me that it might be due to data charges. So you are saying two different things now. I can pay only 2500 which was my credit limit and a legitimate amount.
