We had two Reliance Land Lines which were registered in the name of our factory manager with C/O as our company name. Our company is located in Silvassa (D&NH) - close to Vapi, Gujrat.
In July '04 we surrendered both the numbers to the nearest Reliance Webworld, cleared all our dues and go an acknowledgment from the local representative of acceptance of both the instruments.
We continued to receive a bill for the next 4 months and in December '04 we wrote a letter to Reliance Communications intimating to them that we are not using the numbers since the last 4 months but were still receiving the bill. The bill for December '04 spiraled to Rs.10,333 which we refused to pay for obvious reasons. We got an acknowledgment from the same webworld accepting this letter as the reason for non-payment of dues.
The matter seemed to end here as we did not hear from them anymore.
Now, on 16th November at 11 a.m, our Factory Manager received a call with the person on the other end stating that he was calling from "Delhi Police" and that there was a warrant issued in his name since there was a case lodged against him in Delhi Court by Reliance Communications in connection with the same two numbers whose dues were unpaid in December '04.
The "Delhi Police" representative also gave him the number of one lawyer who they said had all the information about this case.
On calling that "lawyer", he said that he represents Reliance Communications and that with relation to the numbers, there was a payment sue of Rs.10,333 + interest and penalty payments of Rs.45,500 over the last 6 years of non-payment.
On discussing with him that we had submitted the phones and have all written proof from the local representative of acceptance of cancellation of the numbers, he said that the case judgement was going to be passed at 1pm and if we do not make a payment of atleast Rs.10,333 the judgement would be passed in Reliance's favour and then we would have to deal with the local police in this matter. We also intimated him that over this course of 6 years we have not received any official communication from him or reliance communication stating that a case was lodged for the same. His reply to this was that a letter was sent by Registered AD in 2005 but it was our mistake that we did not take this matter further with Reliance about the unpaid dues and that we were now liable and responsible for no communication between us.
Being intimidated by this whole talk, our factory manager paid Rs.10,333 to the local reliance store and got a receipt for the same stating that we only had time till 1 PM so that the case is closed.
Unfortunately, had he not made the payment, we could've investigated the matter further and seen what would've happened but cant do anything legal now.
I have held back the names of the persons who had claimed that they were from Delhi Police / Lawyer for Reliance Communication as I would like to discuss the same with a proper Reliance Representative.
We have all original documents as stated above which prove that we have surrendered the phone and not used it between the period for which they have sent us the huge bill of Rs.10,333.
I would appreciate if someone can help us and give us proper contact details who we can speak to in Reliance for this matter.
I have my doubts regarding the authenticity of this call.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
