Airtel Postpaid - Harassment for undue bill

    Default Airtel Postpaid - Harassment for undue bill

    I am a customer of Airtel since 2005 and my number was 9872619010, I used it for 5 years and had been very punctual in all my bill payments. It was in 2010 November that I requested to disconnect my number but to no avail, so I used it another month and had a bill of Rs 2700 which was late in getting paid because I had shifted to another place. Airtel customer care was after us to get the bill paid, they gave many threatening calls at my number and to the cell numbers I had been frequently calling, i.e my family. So finally we got the bill paid for which a man from Airtel office came to our home to get the money collected and my Dad made him write and sign a paper stating that the number will be closed and handed over the sim to him. After that 9872619010 was history for us and we had no connection with that number. It was a case closed..!
    Now after some months I start getting the bill details of the same number at my email and the bill ranging from 6,000 one month and within 2-3 months it got over 12,000. When I checked the email(containing the bill of 12,000) on May 27, 2010, I immediately called the Customer Care and informed them that I had been using the number from many years but got it closed some months ago and I am still getting such heavily billed emails, so that means that the number is being misused by someone, and wanted the number to be immediately closed otherwise I don’t bear any responsibility for the same. The customer care boy said Ok the number will be closed as soon as possible. Now I want 5 answers from them.

    1. When Rs 2700 (my last payment) bill was over due, the customer care was calling at my and my family’s number 24/7 to get the payment. As the credit limit was exceeding. So were the Customer care of Airtel sleeping when the bill shoot up till 12000 ???

    2. What is the meaning of Credit Limit ? I still remember my number being temporarily disconnected when I was late in paying Rs 700 bill . So when the number was being misused and even after my informing, How did the bill got so out of control without being disconnected? Does Airtel accept bribes from ingenuine people ?

    3. The Friends and family numbers- I had been using this number from 5 years and Airtel must be having a record of my 5 years’ bills (I have it in case they don’t have it) and Airtel knows the frequent numbers I had been calling all these years… I challenge Airtel to show me even one of the numbers in the bill dated after my closing the number. The person misusing the number has called continuously only on 2 numbers, which never listed in 5 years of my talking from this number. Why doesn’t Airtel call those numbers and inquire about the person calling or get the details of the numbers being called by that number???

    4. Why was the number not closed after repeated requests? First in the month of October I made a request of closing down the number but to no avail then I requested to close the number in November but to no avail, then finally we made the final payment in January and got the number closed from our side. Still WHY was the number still working? So that Airtel people sell it illegally???

    5. Why the harassment? The Customer care of Airtel is so ridiculously disrespectful. The boy who called a senior citizen and an Army officer in my family said to him “Tu ta buzurg aa, koi sharam kar” in Punjabi. Meaning “You are an old man, have some shame”. The Customer care has also misbehaved with one the senior citizen, a lady and we have all the proofs of that too. I say Airtel and that boy should have some shame and learn some manners to talk to elders! They are giving me all the reasons to take them to court.

    6. The Airtel representative who took the last payement from us, gave us in writing that he has taken the sim and will be closing the number, with this and other proofs which will justify my case, I can give a good answer to Airtel. But I wanted the thing to be sorted out peacefully.

    7. The Customer care representative who called us, we have explained all the situation to them, still they call daily and act as if they don’t know anything, which is so very irritating and annoying, they keep calling my friends and family numbers(which I used 9 months ago when I was using the number) and are trying to spoil my reputation, being a girl I can take them to court also on this behalf, so its better they stop spreading their bullshit everywhere as soon as possible. Why does Airtel keep such illiterate people as their Customer care?

    8. Who will be responsible if the person misusing my number is from some anti-social element ?
    Airtel's Customer Care boy who abused and harassed me and my family ?? I want Airtel to inquire about the person who has misused the number, and about the person who gave/sold number to him and about the Customer care boy who has been busy spreading to my family and friends that he will be filing 420 case against me, because I want to do a case on him on many grounds.

    Now I want a reply from Airtel as soon as possible or I will take them to court and will want no further correspondence with them in future and also get 6 numbers disconnected (which I and my family are currently using) also of Airtel !

    We have had a pathetic experience with Airtel and will share our experience with others as well… so that Airtel doesn’t fool anymore innocent people.

    I am also the victim of Airtel like you. I was also the loyal costumer of airtel for last four year. This company has started extorting money from people. They are actually well organized goons. They harass people and make money out of that. I don’t know when our government will take action such criminals. I am also of opinion that we should start it ourselves. We should ask all the people who are in our contact to discontinue their airtel connection, DTH and anything that Airtel is associated with. They believe that India is a large country and by making fool of few people even they can generate lot of money. But I request the aware people like you to start a campaign against Airtel at large scale so that it affects its business directly. There are two ways: First to ask your dear and near people to disconnect the all Airtel related instruments. And the second most important which would be quite effective is to start online campaign by emails telling people about the policies/misdeed of this company. This is easy and quite effective way. This is not a personal issue, this is a social issue. This time we are facing next time, it can be anyone else, our friends, our relatives. So even if they spare you /me/or people like us we should not stop this process. If we can send mass mail to even unknown peoples which is religion based, business base why not such mails which make them aware about the cheap policies such companies are adopting. So I request you and all others to join me in this campaign. Also ask everyone to whom you are sending mail to forward this mail to everyone they know. Only then these companies can learn lesson. If they hit us tell them we are going to hit harder.

    Angry Death Threat calls from Airtel person Mr.Peter

    Hi,

    I have a connection in the name of my company with the mobile no:9591987099 which was used by one of my colleague who has not reported to work and nor has handed over the sim card and I am investigating on the matter as he has used it for personal use.

    Last one week I am getting threatening calls from Airtel and today the heights of threats to the extent of physical injuries..If Airtel has got any issue on the payment they have the right to go legally not to abuse and threat customers with goondas..

    Any damage happens to me or my office Airtel is directly responsible for this and I will go to the highest court to punish Airtel.

    I am already lodging a complaint in Police station under sec 506a against Airtel.

    Hi Sneha/Mr. Sharma,

    I agree that we should unite and start a campaign against Airtel. Me too have faced lot of harassment and threatening calls from Airtel Recovery team for undue bill of 10000/-.
    (Now since every one can change their operator with same number this is should not be a problem...we can atleast ask our family/friends/collegues and again request other people by forming communities on Social networking sites to change their operator from Airtel to some other operator.)

    I posted the same issue in consumer court forum but what ultimate result was - We reget to inform you......

    My compaint agaist Airtel is:

    Hi,

    I was an Airtel user for past 3 years and my mobile number was +91 9967004563 which was a corporate connection. Then in month of June I decided to change my operator so I called Airtel and asked customer care to disconnect my number. The service executive told me that there will be a call from retention department. Subsequently I got a call from retention department and I again confirmed that I don't want to continue with Airtel.

    Lady on call told me to send an email to 123@airtelindia.com ( Later they say that they asked me to send an email to 121@airtelindia.com ). As per instructions I sent email to 123@airtelindia.com on 8th June and requested permenent disconnection of my mobile number. I have a copy of that email in my sent email.

    Since I was not using the airtel simcard after that I couldn't keep track of the sim card and lost the simcard. As soon as I came to know that this card is lost I called Airtel customer care and asked if my sim card was disconnected, the response I received was - Your number has been marked for disconnection. If I recollect right then I did mention on call that I have lost my simcard. After receiving this response I was relaxed that the sim is disconnected and no one can take advantage of the card if someone has found it and hence I didn't launch any police complaint about lost simcard. (Bit logical right?)

    Now to my surprise Airtel didn't disconnect the simcard and someone has taken advantage of the found simcard and built due amount of about 10,000/-. Since then the harrassment has started and now I am in continuous interaction with Airtel as they are asking me to pay the amount for which I am not ready as the usage that has been made is not mine.

    Now I am daily getting threatening and harrasing calls from Airtel recovery team for bill payment. They are saying that they will call all the numbers I contacted and then abuse me as fraud or they will pull me in court. The people who talk on phone do not have any manners and they are not in co operative mode.

    Kindly consider below points:

    1. I did communicate with Airtel about disconnection of my number thrice on call. ( Initial request for disconnection, Retention Team where I again confirmed disconnection and then the inquiry I made about status of my Simcard )
    2. I sent email to 123@airtelindia.com requesting disconnection, which now they say is email address of prepaid services.
    3.The email I sent didn't bounce and hence I never got any intimation that I have sent email to incorrect email address.
    4. Since this email address exists and prepaid customer care received the disconnection request they were supposed to revert informing that this email has landed in wrong bin. (Atlest looking at Airtel number they were expected to do that I can understand that this was not their job if the number was of another operator).
    5. Atleast I expect that they should have directed the email to postpaid department saying that this is the case that you have to handle.
    6. Recovery team checked the dialled numbers and found that there is one number common in dialled list that was dialled by me and the person who has taken undue advantage of the card. This number belongs to my distant sister who was not aware of my changed number and tried to contact me on that number. There was no response to her call but this person who found my card might have made callback to her number.
    7. Now Airtel is harassing me to pay the amount of 10,000/- which was actually not used by me and asking me to prove that I actually lost the card. Unfortunately since I didn't launch the police complaint and hence am not in position to prove the fact.
    8. To my surprise I came to know that my Airtel credit limit was 5500/- which was never requested by me. After 3 disconnection requests ideally the number should have been disconnected but still they did not disconnect the number and now asking/harrasing me for the balance amount.
    9. I have paid for all the usage that was made by me in few days after I requested for permanent disconnection.

    Please help me out of this situation as this mental toucher from Airtel is affecting my life in all the manners. I requested Airtel to clear off the dues on grounds of humanity and the past records I had with them.

    Hi Rakesh,

    Your team has replied saying that we cant help you and can't give you waiver. However I am not satisfied and do not agree this response.
    This time I need some concrete answer to my questions.

    1. how did my credit limit increase without any intimation to me?
    2. If they say that its 5500 then how come someone has built amount of 10410/-??
    3. Was Airtel prepaid depatment not responsible to revert if they found postpaid number?
    4. for 3.5 years I was a valueable customer and now all of sudden I am fraud??
    5. Airtel must be having records those indicate IMEI number of my mobile and the IMEI number that was used after my disconnection request. Please check if these two numbers match.

    As I know all other operators strictly bar services to the number if number exceeds the credit limit also they send intimation to users about change in credit limit.
