A siren will be sounded here Tuesday to alert people of AIDS as well as to mark the launch of a nationwide campaign against the disease.

The "AIDS siren" would be sounded at 4 p.m. and volunteers and concerned citizens would blow horns and ring bells to attract attention of all people, a spokesman for the National AIDS Control Organisation said here.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister A. Ramdoss would be present on the occasion.

He would also launch a condom-vending machine here at Sukhna lake, a popular tourist spot.

Volunteers would be administered an oath to dedicate themselves to the campaign to fight the disease.

Public transport buses and other vehicles would be decorated with red ribbons - similar to the logo of the fight against AIDS.
