The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent a team to this town in Pakistan-administered Kashmir to assess the epidemic situation in the area in the aftermath of the Oct 8 earthquake.

A two-member WHO team arrived here Saturday and 10 more experts would join them in a week, said WHO official Samiullah.

According to Samiullah, the WHO has not received reports of confirmed epidemic cases in Balakot. He said the WHO had no laboratory there and samples would be sent to Islamabad for testing.

The quake has left around 38,000 people dead so far.
