Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who underwent a "minor surgical procedure" on his right hand, is well and recovering, his aides said Friday.

"The prime minister is at his official residence. He is well, recovering," an aide said. "He, however, has no official engagements today."

Manmohan Singh underwent the operation Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to relieve pressure on a nerve near his right wrist.

According to the aide, the right hand will remain bandaged for a few days, but the prime minister has been able to work normally.
