Over 400 people, including 97 children, in western Russia have been affected by Hepatitis A infection that health officials say could have been caused by beer and other beverages produced at a local brewery, Xinhua reports.

The people were diagnosed with Hepatitis A in the Tver region, 160 km northwest of Moscow, the Interfax news agency reported.

Officials have banned the sale of beer and other non-alcoholic beverages made at a Rzhev brewery.

The disease has been reported in the neighboring Smolensk
region as well.

Hepatitis A is a virus transmitted through food or water.
