The Madras Institute of Trauma (MIOT) hospital here has won the Niryat Shree Award and the Bandhu Gold Trophy for 2002-03 for earning Rs.200 million in foreign exchange.

The 250-bed MIOT, adjudged the highest forex earner in the Indian health sector, is the first hospital in India to win the award.

The Niryat Shree-Bandhu award, instituted by the Federation of Indian Exports Organisations along with the commerce ministry, recognises export performance.

MIOT chairperson Mallika Mohandas received the award from Commerce and Industry Minister Kamalnath in New Delhi Friday.

Mohandas told reporters here Saturday: "This award is another testimony to the world-class healthcare services provided at MIOT."
