Parameshwari, a member from Markanja Agricultural Co-Op Society in Sullia Taluk had very bad Varicose Veins and a non healing ulcer over the medial aspect of the ankle for which several rounds of treatment had failed miserably. A friend in the Society advised them to approach doctor at Dhanvanthari Hospital Puttur. She did it. She is a tall built lady with leg full of tortuous heavy uncomfortable varicosities and a foul smelling non healing ulcer as well.
It took some time to heal after the Trendelenburg's Operation which the surgeon performed in addition to Meyer's stripping as well as Cockett and Dodd's Subfascial Ligation of Perforators below the knee. The post operative course was marked by some infection of suture line. This required several rounds of dressings and at last she was relieved of the pain and suffering. She barely escaped from getting a deep vein thrombosis which could have crippled her more.
All this costed her only Rs.24,019/-. Great so far so good. Trouble started when she tried to claim her due amount from the Co-Op Society. She was out casted booed and bullied for having sent the claim in a non-formal way. Friends turned foes. That wouldn't stop her from claiming the money from Yashaswini which failed in resisting sanction by offering to console her saying that the hospital she went was not recognized and the surgeon there was not up to the mark. She had seen quite a few doctors but no one had anything to offer to lessen the ulcer.
She complained to Sri Sanjay D. about whom she had heard from many farmers. He was a Raitha Bandhu Lawyer. Mr. Sanjay D. issued notices and lodged complaint collected documents issued interrogatories and argued and ultimately Mrs. Asha Shetty of DK District Forum had no hesitation in allowing the respectful amount of Rs.24,019/- for Surgeons hard work and Rs.5000/- and Rs.1000/- for Lawyers hard work. She also sanctioned a future interest of 10% in case Yashaswini failed to honour its commitment within stipulated time.
