Adam Kunhi of Kumbra Seva Sahakari Bank Puttur had taken a loan from the Bank. While sanctioning the loan the bank authorities at he purchase the Yashaswini coupon lest they would not sanction the loan to him. Mr. Kunhi succumbed to the pressure ultimately and bought the coupon which he never thought will be so useful to him in his future days. The Karnataka Government had entrusted the authorities to arrange for its Farmer Subjects money to pay their surgical bills in private hospitals in the hour of need. But how could poor Adam Kunhi realize that the Government had made such good arrangement for him in private hospitals? He thought that the Government hospitals are too good for him. He realized that Government had not put enough infrastructure into the health sector when he went to get his hernia repaired at Puttur Government hospital. Alas he turned to Dhanvanthari hospital, Puttur. Doctors offered him the necessary care willingness and know how and more than everything the love and affection that he needed most. Before he could realize how could this hernia could be got rid off, he had his operation done. Thanks to them. And of course he had Yashaswini which he could make use of now. He sent all the bills to the authorities. But Yashaswini officers were too indifferent to his claim and mercilessly rejected his claim advancing unreasonable and illegal reasons and arguments. Though Adam Kunhi was very poor, there were good attorneys in the town who could help his cause and take up issues that plague the poor class. Mr. Sanjay took pity on him and sent a demand notice to Yashaswini to pay up the meager bill of Rs. 6210/- or face legal consequences. But where Yashaswini will listen? As is the rule with it, Yashaswini turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to Sri Sanjay's communication sent on behalf of his client Adam. All this landed everyone before Smt. Asha Shetty, the District Consumer Forum President, who ultimately after hearing arguments from either side, awarded the much needed full claim amount of Rs.6210/- in addition to Rs. 5,000/- for mental agony and Rs.1,000/- for expenses. She also pronounced that in case they could not pay this amount they can pay by adding another 10% p.a. interest after the expiry of one month from the date of pronouncement of verdict.
