Default Individual health policy from united india insuranc company limited

    Dear Friends,

    Hello.

I got a Individual Health Policy from United India Insurance Company Limited in
the name of my father and mother for Rs.2,00,000 and Rs.1,00,000 respectively on
15/12/2006 valid upto 14/12/2007(first year)and I got the renewal for the same
on 15/12/2007 valid upto 14/12/2008(second year).

On 21/08/2008 my mother got a severe stomach ace and i took to our family doctor
and he referred the case to a specialist and there it got diagnosed that it a
emergency case of 2-3mm stones in her Gall Bladder which have to be removed via
laproscopic operation in a day or two otherwise its gonna be a problem.

I called up my insurance agent for the same but he refused to give the claim and
said that since its the second year of the policy so we are not eligible to file
a claim for the same and the claim wont be honored by the company and we are
eligible for the same in the third year.

I told the same to the doctor he consulted one of his friends working with The
New India Insurance Company Limited he said in case of a emergency we can file a
claim and the company is liable to pay the same.

If anyone knows the same please help out.

    Regards,

    Robin Gupta

As per my previous learning and expert advice from a development officer at
    UI, Yes you can claim
if it is not a pre-existing illness.

Please contact this link below as they are the third parties to settle your
claims for your UI. The agent
may not interested to serve you further as his commission has been obtained
    already.

Or, please talk to your division development manager who can help you.

In the mean time, I had requested the one of the DO of Chennai branch to get
in touch with you by email.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

    Regards,

Go through your policy document carefully. Normally, some diseases are not paid
for in the first year. Second Year should cover almost everything.
Many Agents are usually interested in having a clean record and hence do not
assist in claims payouts. It is better to approach the TPA directly if your
    agent is not co-operative.
    Thanks,
