I have taken Mediclaim Insurance for my family including my parents from New India Assurance company, D.O. no. 130200, NCL Premises, Bandra Kurla complex, Bandra East Mumbai. (Policy No. 130200/34/07/11/3912). The claim of my mother was submitted for Rs. 1.23 lacs out of which I have received Rs. 1.21 lacs after deducting Rs. 2500/- towards "water bed" charges provided by the hospital.

This was pointed out to the Divisional Manager vide letter dtd. 4th Feb, 2009 and 7th September, 2009. The letter dtd, 4th Feb,09 was replied on 13th August, 09 (after almost 5 months) stating the clause under which the amount was not payable. It was brought to the notice of the divisional Manager, that clause does not apply to "water bed charges" and hence payable under the policy.

It should be noted that the patient was bed ridden for entire one month and in order to avoid "bed sores" being developed to the patient, "water bed" was provided. This purpose of providing the water bed was explained to the divisionl manager, but to my surprise, he was in no mood to listen.

You are therefore requested to advise us how to proceed and get the claim settled from insurance company
