Default ICICI Pru Immediate Annuity Policy

    Dear C C,

With great distress I would like to bring to your notice that my husband, Dr. Amar Chatterjee and I have been misguided and cheated into investing in ICICI Pru Immediate Annuity policy.

In 2007, on the eve of our departure abroad, ICICI Pru representatives came to our residence and sweet talked us into investing 50 lac rupees into the aforesaid policy. Our main concern was to be able to withdraw/ redeem the invested amount after five years for our daughter's study. The reps of ICICI Pru assured and reassured us many times that we will be able to do so after five years. Since we left the next day we were not able to receive or read the rules and regulations of the policy and hence could not avail the 15 days allowed to make any changes after the investment.
As we were long term ICICI customers we had faith on the ICICI Pru reps. Moreover we did not have any inkling that reps of such a reputed company will cheat us for life.
The following are the details of our policies:
    (1) Rita Chatterjee
    Annuity policy No.- 04345561
    Start date - 15.02.2007
    Purchase price: Rs 25 lac

    (2) Amar Kumar Chatterjee
    Annuity policy No. - 04345503
    Start date - 15.02.2007
    Purchase price: 25 lac

When we returned back to India and went through the files of the policies we did not find any mention about the refund/ redeem after five years clause.
On speaking with the same reps of ICICI Pru we were again assured that even though it is not mentioned in black and white yet we will be able to withdraw the invested amount after five years.

Now when I went to the ICICI Prudential office to ask about the refund/ redeem of our funds I was straight cut informed that it is never possible to withdraw the invested amounts in our lifetime!!! We are salaried people and hence make our financial plans well ahead of time, specially for our children's education. We invested the amount of Rs. 50 lac in a reputed company with the intention of using it five years later for our daughter's higher education, and now we land up in a hell hole. Where are those crook representatives who cheated us?? Who is responsible for this misinformation given to vulnerable customers? WHo will help us out from this abominable situation?? Are we going to be stuck throughout our lives with the 50 lac of rupees in someone else's hands. It is so disgusting!

Looking forward to your help in this helpless situation.

    Dr. Rita Chatterjee
