To whomsoever it may concern,
My name is Mrs. Tandra Chowdhury and am a policy holder of two policies of SBI life insurance.
I am a divorcee(27th November 2009) and these policies have been bought from the Alimony that I have received from my Ex-husband.
Mrs. Aparna Chatterjee(agent) has been a friend to be for many years(nearly 20 yrs).
This mail is in regards of two separate Policies of SBI life insurance handled by agent Mrs. Aparna Chatterjee(IA Code 18620076),(ph.no.9231861753)
Policy 1
Customer No: 18771726
Policy No. : 28039339605
Product Name : SBI Life – Unit Plus II Pension
Customer name : Mrs. Tandra Chowdhury
Customer DOB : 5th December 1957
Date of Commencement of Policy : 4th December 2009
Residence : Kolkata
This is an Unit Linked Pension Policy which has a single premium of Rs.500000 and has a five year term.
Policy 2
Customer No: 18771726
Policy No. : 24089932301
Product Name : SBI Life – Unit Plus II Regular
Customer name : Mrs. Tandra Chowdhury
Customer DOB : 5th December 1957
Date of Commencement of Policy : 21st December 2009
Residence : Kolkata
This is an Unit Linked Regular Policy which has a yearly premium of Rs.50000 and has a five year term.
I am writing this mail in utter distraught as I have been deceived by my agent while being explained about these policies.
1) Not for once was I told that these are” Market linked policies and is subjected to market risks”. I was assured by my agent that the figures, that were explained, were Real and Assured.
2) It was not once disclosed to me that for Policy 2, I will have to pay an yearly premium of Rs.50000 for 5 years. Instead i was told that this is also a onetime premium.
3) Even when I made several phone calls to my agent to cancel the policies within the 15 days look-in period(in accordance with the Insurance Act 1938), I was told that the policies have already been processed and nothing can be done now.
4) I even made phone calls to the Agency manager -Mr. Saikat Banerjee(9830978455) but of no avail. He advised me that regarding Policy 2 even if I do not pay any premium hereon, I will be able to get returns post three years..so do not pay anymore but withdraw post 3 years.
5) Both these policies have a substantial risk cover(i am 53 years old); however no Medical Test was conducted.
Proofs for the above statements:
1) During the course of commencement of these policies, I was not available as I was at my daughter’s place in Hyderabad(Was in Hyderabad on the 7th Of Dec,2009,boarded train on the
6th of December). However, my 1st call to cancel my policy happened on the 4th of December,2009 after consultation with another LIC agent. Thereafter I kept on calling my agent (even from Hyderabad) to cancel my policy.---Proofs can be obtained from my mobile records during this time.
As per the policy document it is clearly mentioned to contact the agent in case of any clarification/information.
2) It is simply ridiculous and absurd to think that a policy which is also linked to Life insurance can be processed without a Medical Test, especially when the subject is 53 Years old.
3) Thereafter, after reaching Kolkata and post consultation with a family friend, my first letter was submitted to SBI Life(to the manager Operations)
on 26th February 2010.A second letter was written again to the Manager Operations on the 6th of April 2010 followed by a third letter on 17th May 2010 and 21st May 2010(copies of these letters can be produced on demand).
4) On the 7th Of June 2010,I got a letter from Mr. R.K Riana(Head – Client relationship)about his inability to pay any heed to my claim.
Actions/Claims :
1) I request to discontinue both my policies with immediate effect and refund my full amount thereon.
2) Strong actions against all agents who gave a wrong information to me for their own benefit(Monetary) to get these policies into effect.
3) A valid explanation as to how did these policies happen without a medical test?
4) What took the SBI life insurance company so long to respond to my letters(From 26th Feb to 7th June). If they were really researching on my claim, didn’t they find out that this policy was done without a medical test!
Earnestly waiting for a positive reply from IRDA as all this money that was invested is a major portion of my life support at this age.
