Dear Sir,
product: hp pavilion dv2500 series
model: dv2601tx
I purchased the product in december 2007.It has been one month, my warranty has expired.
The problem is as follows:
First the graphics were messed up and there was a screen of death .So I forcefully turned off the laptop. When I restarted the computer, the problem was with the screen .There were multiple images of what should fill 1 screen. There were 6 mirror images of the boot, and vista screens. I gave the laptop a days rest, and when I restarted it was normal. But the entire problem repeated(the screen of death followed by multiple images). It was more than one day and still there isn’t normal. As suggested by hp online support, I performed the bios and nvidia updates, but no result. Then I was suggested to take the laptop to hp service center.
Then I did an intensive search in the internet regarding this problem. I was shocked to find out that this weird problem is the most common problem for most of the laptops of dv2500 series and this specific series is the worst ever in the evolution of laptops with so many defects in its cooling system . I also enquired about this model in my college campus and I found a person facing the exact problem
The defects, which actually resulted in overheating and thus the above problems, are as follows
1. HP used a thermal sticky pad to remove heat from the top side of the GPU rather than using a copper cooling system like most decent laptops would do.
2. This 2007-2008 laptop used only 1 fan. With a core 2 duo Intel processor , it would have made sense to give both the CPU and GPU independent cooling fans rather then trying to gain maximum cooling from 1 fan.
3. The intake port(for intake of air used in cooling) is tiny in comparison with exhaust outlet, yet the bottom of the laptop is deprived of intakes in the right places.
This problem can be rectified only temporarily(even by the service center) by using some thermal paste .But it will repeat for the simple reason that it’s the defect in its architechture.
I think Hp should refund my money and also provide compensation.
Hp can counter argue that my problem is due to over usage or something else. But how would they explain something like “multiple customers of a same model facing same weird problem(I can mail you the photo clips of the screen to illustrate the intensity of weirdness ) just after they finished their warranty period”. I am thinking of collecting written statements from the people who are the victims of this series.
I registered a complaint in HP site. Complaint no: CCHSAP191965.No reply received.
Any suggestions or directives are appreciated.
Sincerely ,
Rohith Mohan
