Default HP Pavilion dv2500 series overheating problem

    Dear Sir,
    product: hp pavilion dv2500 series
    model: dv2601tx

I purchased the product in december 2007.It has been one month, my warranty has expired.

    The problem is as follows:

First the graphics were messed up and there was a screen of death .So I forcefully turned off the laptop. When I restarted the computer, the problem was with the screen .There were multiple images of what should fill 1 screen. There were 6 mirror images of the boot, and vista screens. I gave the laptop a days rest, and when I restarted it was normal. But the entire problem repeated(the screen of death followed by multiple images). It was more than one day and still there isn’t normal. As suggested by hp online support, I performed the bios and nvidia updates, but no result. Then I was suggested to take the laptop to hp service center.

Then I did an intensive search in the internet regarding this problem. I was shocked to find out that this weird problem is the most common problem for most of the laptops of dv2500 series and this specific series is the worst ever in the evolution of laptops with so many defects in its cooling system . I also enquired about this model in my college campus and I found a person facing the exact problem

The defects, which actually resulted in overheating and thus the above problems, are as follows

    1. HP used a thermal sticky pad to remove heat from the top side of the GPU rather than using a copper cooling system like most decent laptops would do.
    2. This 2007-2008 laptop used only 1 fan. With a core 2 duo Intel processor , it would have made sense to give both the CPU and GPU independent cooling fans rather then trying to gain maximum cooling from 1 fan.
    3. The intake port(for intake of air used in cooling) is tiny in comparison with exhaust outlet, yet the bottom of the laptop is deprived of intakes in the right places.

This problem can be rectified only temporarily(even by the service center) by using some thermal paste .But it will repeat for the simple reason that it’s the defect in its architechture.

I think Hp should refund my money and also provide compensation.

Hp can counter argue that my problem is due to over usage or something else. But how would they explain something like “multiple customers of a same model facing same weird problem(I can mail you the photo clips of the screen to illustrate the intensity of weirdness ) just after they finished their warranty period”. I am thinking of collecting written statements from the people who are the victims of this series.

I registered a complaint in HP site. Complaint no: CCHSAP191965.No reply received.

Any suggestions or directives are appreciated.

    Sincerely ,

    Rohith Mohan

    Dear sir ,
    Thanks for your reply
The first part of my statement is the about the weird problem I am facing. I think photo clips of the my laptop screen are sufficient to prove them. I have them.

Regarding the defects I mentioned ,
the first one, about the thermal sticky pad ,this one is out of experience of people who opened their laptops(this model only ) when they faced the same problem. This thing ,I found in the internet. I know that it is not worth a proof. But, if necessary I can myself open the laptop and take clips.

The second one about the fan, This one can be easily inferred from the sound you hear from the fan moving.(that there is only one fan). However this is my opinion that it would make sense to use only one fan.

The third one is about the small intake port(intake for the air used in the cooling).Out of many laptop models I have encountered , mine has the smallest intake port(I don’t think mine is even 25% size of others),where as the exhaust port is equally large. I can take clips of all the models and clearly show mine has really small intake port.

And now my statement that these defects caused the overheating problem is my inference.

My statement that this problem will repeat , even after the service is a deduction, which I believe to be quite reasonable.

Keeping all this technical stuff aside for a while,

how can one explain multiple customers of a same model facing same weird problem ?I can collect written statements from a few customers of this model facing the same problem. That would mean the problem is not with anyone’s rough usage or over usage but it is in the design of the product .Will this be sufficient? In that case, how many statements do I need to collect?

By the way, apart from photos and written statements, what can be other forms of a proof in this particular issue.
Any suggestions or directives are appreciated

    Thanking you.

    Sincerely,
    Rohith Mohan

    Default Same problem

Exactly as described above, multiple images and sometimes checkered purple/green overlay on screen. Probably due to overheating because of bad design.

Default HP(Solutions Digitas) Complaints-Gift Redemption Not received

I have purchased HP laptop (Hp Pavilion Dv5-1104Tu Notebook PC - Product Serial No. CNF8431N33) on 26 Jan 2009 and filled registration form against gift with this purchasing on 28 Jan 2009 and received Redemption Code JHSQ12R8PF and Made A DD of 1499 bucks for processing and handling charges fee against required terms & condition and sent all necessary documents to Their office (HP Redemption Cell ) & My documents have been received on 4 Feb 2009 on their office. Claim status page from their web side attached with this mail.

Now according to Terms & condition they required 6 weeks time after receiving the required documents at HP Redemption Cell to process . (HP offer attached with this mail).

Now 35 weeks spend still I have not received my gift from their side.

If I wrote any mail for my gift, They always sent following massage

    "Dear Customer,

We would like to inform you that the gift will be dispatched within the next 7-10 working days.

Inconvenience caused due to delay is truly regretted."

I wrote many times but now I become very frustrated and took a lot of time to track my gift status. Now They cut my phone when I gave him my redemption code (customer care name - Mr. varun) & talked badly that hurt me.

Pl help to solve this problem.

    Thank you

Default another very unhappy HP customer

i too have the dreaded dv2500. i have had it over a year & a half. i hardly used it & therefore didn't realize how hot it got. now i am using it more & i burned my hand on it the other day. a temperature readout showed over 90c before it shuts itself down.

i lodged a complaint to HP & guess what! they say i will have to pay to have it fixed & that the heatsink/fan was faulty. well the fan still spins so i don't know how it would be faulty.

i know my way around computers having ran my own repair business for 10 years. I have tried all the usual things like cleaning the heatsink out & applying new thermal paste etc.

this is just a bad notebook. there's nothing else you can say about it.

i have owned 4 HP notebooks in the past & also 2 HP PDA's. there is no way i will ever own another HP product!

    Me too :-(

I have a DV2500 and use it everyday for my business. I noticed quite soon after I bought this machine that it became hot very quickly even when performing simple tasks. I never use it for gaming etc.

It now gets too hot to touch and turns itself off with no warning. Not great for a laptop which I have had for less than a year and which cost £800! I have taken to putting it in the fridge over lunch to cool it down. Not ideal an I know one day it will just go pop.

The intake for the fan is far too small imo.
