Xenitis, known for manufacturing the Amar PC brand of computers at rock-bottom prices, Tuesday unveiled its new range of laptops named Xuva, promising to offer quality products for a reasonable price.
In the presence of filmmaker Aparna Sen and her daughter, actress Konkona Sensharma, Xenitis chairman Santanu Ghosh launched the five models of Xuva laptops powered by Intel Centrino mobile technology.
Priced between Rs.29,000 ($640) and Rs.59,000 ($1,300), the laptops are assembled in the Xenitis factory at Kodalia in Hooghly district near here.
"While the market demand in India is between 150,000 and 200,000 units per quarter, we will manufacture 10,000 units a quarter," said Ghosh. "There is a growing demand for laptops in the B and C cities and towns."
Xenitis managing director Tathagata Dutta said the firm planned a rapid expansion. "We are sourcing the barebones laptop frames from some of the biggest original design makers in Taiwan," he said.
Founded by Ghosh and Dutta, Xenitis grew in a short span of three years and posted a turnover of Rs.1.78 billion ($39.3 million) in 2004-05. The company expects to cross the Rs.5 billion ($110.4 million)-mark this year.
