Formula 1's Team McLaren has bagged a sponsorship deal with alcohol brand Johnnie Walker worth &pound15 million and the team will carry the brand's 'striding man' image on its livery from next month's Turkish Grand Prix.

The alcohol major, known for its Scotch whisky, will replace tobacco brand West.

"With a viewing audience of more than two billion annually, Formula 1 provides a unique global platform for us to take the lead and promote responsible drinking," said Charles Allen, marketing director of Johnnie Walker in a release.

"As a company, we have made a long-term commitment towards promoting a shared understanding of what responsible drinking means and it will be at the heart of our Formula 1 activities with Team McLaren Mercedes," he added.

In addition to the brand's annual Formula 1 marketing investment of &pound15 million, &pound2 million will be invested in programmes designed to promote responsible drinking with the global message; "Take the lead, drink responsibly".

The brand will be displayed on the air-intake of the race cars as well as on the drivers' overhauls and the team's race suits.

The Scotch brand joins a list of high profile brands - including HUGO BOSS, TAG Heuer and Siemens - to be associated the leading Formula 1 team.
