Kerala has assured German automobile giant BMW it would clear all bottlenecks to enable it set up a manufacturing facility here.
"At the moment the company is worried that Kerala remains backward, especially because here there are ancillary industries which are a must for setting up their plant," Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters Wednesday.
"Another aspect they have pointed out is that Kerala does not have a qualified workforce with expertise in the motor industry," said Chandy.
He said hopes have not been fully lost because the government has submitted a detailed report to BMW stating that all issues could be sorted out.
"I am unable to tell you what we have told them because it could well rake up unnecessary controversies. At the appropriate time we will spell it out," Chandy said.
BMW officials have thrice visited Kerala to inspect the infrastructure available.
