In an emotional farewell message to employees of Reliance Infocomm, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani Monday hoped the telecom firm would continue to grow under his younger brother Anil's leadership.

Anil Ambani has taken control of Reliance Infocomm, a brainchild of Mukesh, as part of a settlement to end a seven-month ownership slugfest between the two brothers who own the $23 billion Reliance business empire.

"My younger brother Anil is taking over the stewardship of Reliance Infocomm," Mukesh said in an email message to over 40,000 employees of the firm, the country's largest private sector telecom entity.

"He has enormous energy and drive and we share a common commitment to take forward the legacy of our father Late Dhirubhai Ambani," Mukesh said. "I am sure that you will give your best to Anil and his team."

The Reliance Industries board Saturday approved the formula for settling a lingering ownership row between Mukesh and Anil by dividing the empire.

Under the settlement formula, Mukesh got complete control over oil refining and gas firm Reliance Industries and Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (IPCL).

The younger Ambani, on the other hand, will manage power utility Reliance Energy, finance firm Reliance Capital and telecom services major Reliance Infocomm.

In his message, Mukesh expressed gratitude to Reliance Infocomm employees for making contributions in translating his father's dream of making the cost of a phone call cheaper than that of a post card into reality.

"I take this opportunity to wish each one of you every success and glory in your chosen carrier as well as for good cheer, health and prosperity," said Mukesh.

Reliance Infocomm symbolised the next generation communication organisation, connecting hundreds of millions of Indians with each other and the world, he said.

"As the responsibility of caring for Reliance Infocomm and leading it is now being handed over to my younger brother Anil, I send my best wishes to the new leadership for greater accomplishments."
