Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani Wednesday called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to explain the ongoing tussle over the ownership and control of one of India's largest business groups.
During a 20-minute one-to-one meeting with Manmohan Singh, Mukesh Ambani sought to explain his position and role vis-à-vis the Reliance group as desired by its late founder and his father Dhirubhai Ambani, sources said.
Mukesh and his younger brother Anil are engaged in what is described as a bitter tussle over the ownership and control of the Reliance group.
Mukesh is also understood to have told the prime minister about the negotiations with Anil being worked out by ICICI chief K.V. Kamath on splitting the empire between the two brothers.
Sources said allegations of malpractices of insider trading against some of the Reliance group companies did not figure in the meeting.
Reliance Industries had Tuesday refuted vice chairman Anil's allegations that Nikhil Meswani, executive director of the group, was misleading the media and investors on the issue of settling the ownership feud.
