I shifted my house hold goods by one "M/ s Professional Couriers" , having their
office in VASHI- New Bombay in Dec 2004 from Mumbai to New Delhi. I had seen
their advt in daily local Mid Day and had called them to shift my luggage.
However, there were no written terms of packing, delivery and opening the goods
at destination. The person concerned gave all the details and took all the money
from me in advance. The goods were Insurred for Rs. 3 Lakhs for transit
insurrance ( All risks covered) by United India Assurance Co. Thane Office.
The truck reached Delhi two days latter than promised and the goods were found
broken, pilfreged, missing and damaged. Even the unloading was not done as it
was promised. I informed their local contact person here and obtained a written
statement from him.
I have sent numerous letters to the service provider but have yet to get any
reply from him. Also, when I lodged my claim for losses more than Rs. 1 Lakh,
the surveyor cleared it only for Rs. 33 Thousand ( Approx). Since I couldn't
produce the bills of the material purchased couple of year ago, my claim has
been reduced by the surveyor. (IS IT CORRECT AS HOW CAN ANY ONE GUESS TO KEEP
PRESERVING ALL THE BILLS FOR SUCH EVENTUALITY)
I sent all my claim papers to Insurrance Co office in Thane in Aug but have yet
to hear any thing from them even after sending them various reminders.
I would be grateful if someone from the group can suggest me as how do I get (1)
Full value of my losses (2) My dues from the Inssurance Co. (3) Can I move to
Consumer Court to get compansation for all this harrasement & losses ?
ALSO I WISH TO INFORM PEOPLE THAT SUCH PACKERS & MOVERS SHOULD NEVER BE ENGAGED
AS THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY CODE OF BUSINESS .
