I have to lodge a serious complain against the Smit Children Hospital run by sole doctor Dr. Biren Patel (a child specialist). My new born son was brought to this hospital in an emergency and admitted in NICU in the hospital. We have paid emergency charges but no recept was given. Later doctor treated him for 10 days inclusive in NICU. During this whole period we have met every day the doctor, and during the discharge the doctor instructed us to pay Rs. 41000 (does not include the medicine and other charges which was paid by us during the treatment. The concern doctor didnot inform us in advance or during the treatment the charges and we were totally taken aback on the receiving the bill. On demanding the explaination from the staff and doctor, we were told to pay by whatever means we have and take the case papers.

Though we have already paid Rs. 25000/- plus 12000 worth medicine to the hospital during the treatment, the action of the hospital and doctor to us in unethical and unacceptable as a noble profession. We know that its profession which saves life of patients but under the same notion the hospital cannot charge as and when they wish during an emotion time for us. We have not paid the rest of amount and waiting for the detailed bill by the doctor. The doctor has also not specified his qualification and registration number which is mandatory under the MCI rule (2002). Whether I can ask for refund or how do we know that the hospital and doctor is not cheating us.
